Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Science, Quantitative Psychology, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, Analytics, Computer Modeling, or related technical field; or a combination of education and experience to equal 4 years.
  • Technical skills and interests to set up, support, fix, and maintain study-related technologies including hardware and software, including: basic home networking including the application of WiFi and Bluetooth for the installation of study technologies into participant homes
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft OS and productivity software
  • Knowledge of and experience with programming languages, data management software, and data visualization
  • Analytical skills to organize, curate, analyze, and present data with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to learn and integrate new information quickly
  • Strong self-initiative and teamwork skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism
  • Ability to interact patiently and respectfully with older adult research participants
  • Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to shift focus between changing priorities in an agile and flexible way
  • This is a hybrid position located on-site at the Minneapolis VA with flexibility for remote work from home
  • Reliable personal transportation for commuting to and from the Minneapolis VA is required, in addition to commuting with personal vehicle to participants’ homes with other staff for technology maintenance visits (Reimbursement is provided for mileage)
  • US Citizenship is a VA requirement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for gathering, organizing, analyzing datasets, generating plots, and presenting findings. Examples include R, SPSS etc.

This is a technical/data study coordinator position to work as part of a team investigating how in-home technologies can be used to keep older adults healthy and living independently as they age (AGING-WELL research study). This position will work independently and within the team to coordinate and carry out technical components of the study protocol, including: set up, deployment, and maintenance of study technologies in the homes of older adult participants; communication with older adult participants to troubleshoot technical problems with study technologies; monitoring incoming data from study technologies and reporting regularly to study PI and other study staff; managing and coordinating inventory of study technologies; entering and managing study device data and participant IDs in a Redcap database and cross-referencing and record keeping in other study tracking tools; maintaining and distributing weekly and monthly Qualtrics surveys to participants and following up with reminder or troubleshooting calls as needed.

The technical/data study coordinator will also coordinate and carry out data related components of the study protocol in the areas of data management, data processing, data visualization, and data analysis. There will be opportunities to contribute to research dissemination efforts within the lab including cleaning, processing, and analyzing data, writing abstracts for scientific meetings, and writing manuscripts for publication in research journals. Adriana Hughes, PhD is the lab Principal Investigator, and a faculty of the Minneapolis VA Geriatric Research, Education & Clinical Center (GRECC) and Department of Psychiatry at the University of Minnesota. The AGING-WELL research study is being conducted within the Geriatric Research, Education & Clinical Center (GRECC) at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. The study is supported by a R01 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Job Duties:
Coordinate and carry out technical components of the study protocol (60%), including: Set up, deployment, and maintenance of study technologies in the homes of older adult participants; communication with older adult participants to troubleshoot technical problems with study technologies; monitoring incoming data from study technologies and reporting regularly to study PI and other study staff; managing and coordinating inventory of study technologies; entering and managing study device data and participant IDs in a Redcap database and cross-referencing and record keeping in other study tracking tools; maintaining and distributing weekly and monthly Qualtrics surveys to participants and following up with reminder or troubleshooting calls as needed.

Coordinate and carry out data related components of the study protocol, including data management, data processing, data visualization, and data analysis (40%). Responsibilities will include managing the study RedCap database, preparing data summary reports for the PI and staff, performing data pulls, cleaning, aggregating, and curating multiple datasets into single data files. Responsibilities also include manipulating large clinic-based and sensor datasets to process raw data into desired study variables, and performing quantitative data analyses to generate descriptive statistics, data plots and visualizations, and inferential statistics.
