Roberts is seeking an experienced SHIFT LEADER to plan, create, direct, set-up and run sheet extrusion equipment. This position reports to the Production Manager. The responsibilities include leading a team of operators to produce, inspect and plastic fixtures to specifications, accurately documenting scrap and downtime. - Lead, direct, coordinate and participate in all activities related to a production shift to maximize productivity, minimize cost, maintain quality safely observing all company safety protocol and PPE requirements.
- Responsible for a safe work environment, problem-solving; training employees; planning, assigning and directing work.
- Effectively communicates to the Production Manager on personnel related matters
- Responsible for cleanliness and housekeeping of the production machinery and surrounding area in accordance with 5S standards. Ensures a clean and safe workplace.
- Ensures timely startups and shutdowns to maximize productivity and reduce unnecessary downtime. Must be willing to pack finished product into corrugate containers from time to time.
- Instruct and train team members together with the Process Technician to become qualified set up technicians following the SOP’s defined by the company.
- Change extrusion die on extrusion machine following the SOP’s defined by the company, making sure the correct size die is utilized for the current product scheduled.
- Sets up and operate extruder with the appropriate settings for regrind, color and virgin material, making all necessary adjustments to produce quality components. Detects and diagnoses surface defects of product, die lines, blemishes, color variations, etc.
- Sets up punching and extrusion dies, troubleshoot and performs basic machine maintenance.
- Monitor and inspect quality of finished goods, signing off on the first article at the beginning of the shift or beginning of a new run after a changeover.
- Communicates information to Operation Manager, peers and operators. As necessary, starting shift earlier or staying later than scheduled work time.
- Document and utilize stored process sheets
- Establish work procedures to meet customer requirements and product standards
- Posts and monitors daily production and quality metrics
If this sounds like you, we want to connect! - Associates degree in Engineering or related field of study OR significant industry experience as substitute.
- 5-8 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 3 years of direct, hands on, experience involving use of thermoplastic extrusion and converting equipment.
- Overall knowledge of tools, instruments and standard test equipment and plant processes.
- Excellent communication with strong leadership skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels.
- Energetic and personable demeanor, be self-motivated.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds to move shipments to hand truck
- Valid training certificate to operate fork truck preferred, training is provided
- Ability to sample new tools and communicate with Engineering, Tooling, and Quality personnel to assure objectives are achieved.
- Able to work overtime and weekends as needed.
- Ability to document all processes related to the molding of a part that is repeatable and understandable
- Willing and able to work 12 ½ hour shifts in a continuous operating schedule, A & C Shifts 6:00AM-6:30PM; B & D Shifts 6:00PM-6:30AM.
