General Position Description

Do you have a passion for working with young children? This may be the position for you! The Teacher Assistant supports the Teacher and the Education Coordinator by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the Teacher Assistant observes and documents children’s interest and progress, and relays that information back to the Teacher. Teacher Assistants are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children’s interests and needs under the direction of the Teacher and the Education Coordinator.

This Position Reports to Teacher.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

• Minimum of 1-2 years of professional preschool (ages 3-5) experience preferred.
• High energy.
• Ability to work well with others.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
• A basic understanding of child development.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Willing to obtain infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
• Must clear full background check.
• Must pass health screening.
• Must have a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.

Educational Requirements

• Head Start: High School Diploma or GED; Must be willing to be Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) within first year of hire (with program support).
• Pre-K Counts: Child Development Associate Credential (CDA), Associates Degree, or two full-time years towards a bachelor’s degree.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. Position requires daily kneeling, stooping, bending and sitting on the floor to attend to children’s needs.

Salary: $11.50 to $14.00 /hour

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift

COVID-19 considerations:
Masks and social distancing. Taking temps and following COVID protocols. Currently operating at 50% capacity. Constantly sanitizing surfaces and washing hands. One day a week no children for thorough cleaning/sanitizing of classroom.
