The Registered Nurse (RN) manages the direct patient care of an identified group of patients in the Preop and PostAnesthesia Care Units. The RN assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for the delivery of all patient care, including care provided by those directly under his/her direction, such as the LPN, Patient Care Technician and any other non-licensed provider of care. The RN uses nursing theory to appropriately assess, reassess, deliver and evaluate care given while incorporating all JCAHO recommended practices into care routines. Communication within and outside of the care team is essential to providing and meeting the plan of care. An RN is assigned charge responsibilities on a rotating basis, as needed.
