Avalara is seeking an experienced sales and use tax consultant to join our growing Professional Services team as a Tax Director in one of our core US locations: Seattle, Washington or Durham, North Carolina. Job Duties Primary job duties involve new business development for Professional Services in the following areas: Additional job duties may involve research and other related activities in the following areas: This highly successful and rapidly growing practice area helps our customers and prospects recognize and resolve gaps in their compliance process so they can utilize the core Avalara technology platforms – like AvaTax and CertCapture – more effectively. Ongoing new business development in this area is key to maintaining that success. Qualifications
Daily pre-sales support with our Customer Account and Sales Management teams advising customers and prospects about solutions to their sales and use tax compliance issues, and positioning our various tax advisory services.
Daily consultations with customers that have completed our nexus analysis to educate them on our findings and provide recommendations on voluntary compliance options including Voluntary Disclosure Programs.
Participation in various internal and external training sessions, seminars and webinars on tax advisory services-related topics, including nexus developments, voluntary compliance programs, etc.
Coordination with other Professional Services team members on pre-sales support activities.
On occasion, perform light-to-medium state and local tax research for our customers on specific sales and use tax-related topics using online research services, our internal tax content databases and libraries and other resources.
Monitoring changes in sales and use tax nexus rules, policies and state tax department positions.
On occasion, assist with developing content for internal and external webinars and marketing materials related to nexus developments.
Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or a related field, with a specialty degree a plus (such as a JD, Master's in Taxation or CMI – Sales Tax.)
