Systems Programmer or Senior Systems Programmer

This is professional, technical and analytical work in the design, installation and support of the City’s UNIX (Solaris), Oracle and IBM iSeries system platforms. Work involves hardware and software installations, operating systems and applications upgrades, problem identification and solution support, participation in topology design and active support of Oracle database administrators, Oracle and system developer teams. Duties include off hours maintenance and support for system backups, restores and cloning related activities, testing and debugging programs.
Salary: $63,697 - $111,252*

- The selection into a Senior Systems Programmer, will depend upon qualifications and experience. Initial employment is customarily at entry level. The entry level for the Senior level position is $68,746.
To Qualify Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:- Have a valid Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training may be considered in lieu of the degree.
- Have considerable progressive experience in mid-range (or larger) computer systems, technical administration, and support with a minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience or six (6) years of full-time experience to be considered at the Senior level.
- Have at least two (2) years of professional work experience in Oracle System Administration (Profiles and Permissions).
- Be proficient in multiple skill sets including shell scripting and fault analysis.
- Have some professional work experience with the IBM iSeries system platform.
- Be skilled in the use of the full Microsoft Office 365 Suite and Windows operating system.
- Be able to work under stressful conditions and persevere on long work projects of a technical and complex nature.
- Be able to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends for upgrades and support services as required.
- Be able to plan, schedule and perform work to meet deadlines and organization goals.
- Be able to work efficiently and effectively with different technology teams.
- Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Participate in Disaster Recovery technology exercises and real emergency events.
- Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, an applicant must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:- Have a valid Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
- Have knowledge and experience with Linux (Red Hat or Centos preferred).
- Have knowledge of ZFS volume management (Zpool commands, ZFS commands) and Shell scripting (Bash, Bourne, Korn).
- Have knowledge and experience with Oracle server hardware configuration and monitoring.
- Have knowledge of Oracle service request creation and Explorer output files.
- Have knowledge and experience with IBM iSeries hardware configuration and monitoring.
- Have at least two (2) years of professional work experience with Digital Certificates.
- Have some experience with secure file transfers, FTP/SFTP scripting, SSH, Network Shares.
- Have some experience CL programming including creating and updating various backup and utility type system programs.
- Have related work experience in a government business setting.
