Position Description & Duties
The Sustainability Specialist, for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache’s EH&S team at the company’s Houston, TX office reporting to the Environmental Sustainability Manager.

This role will be primarily responsible for the following:

  • Collaborate with company stakeholders to develop and review ESG report narrative, review/ audit ESG data and metrics provided by department stakeholders, and work with other sustainability team members to update policies, processes, and systems as needed
  • Interface with internal and external auditors during quality assurance and document preparation activities, participate in effort to address identified deficiencies or recommendations identified by stakeholders
  • Work with sustainability team members to lead internal development of annual corporate sustainability report
  • Coordinate with senior staff to develop corporate strategy for ESG disclosures
  • Collect and analyze corporate wide sustainability data not limited to GHG and water data
  • Engage with external stakeholders and industry groups regarding GHG emissions disclosure issues
  • Be informed and knowledgeable on international greenhouse gas reporting methodologies (API SANGEA, EU ETS, EPA Subpart W)
  • Work with investor relations and Communications to meet growing investor interest in ESG issues to identify and prioritize improvement areas
  • Evaluate and engage ratings agency on corporate rankings (MSCI, ISS, Sustainalytics) and able to respond to investor surveys
  • Conduct ongoing materiality updates every 2-3 years to incorporate views from additional stakeholder groups and revisit previous results to assess potential changes
  • Possess working knowledge of sustainability concepts. Must be proficient in recognized sustainability reporting methodologies (GRI, TCFD, SASB, UN SDGs)
  • Possess working knowledge of environmental and social sustainability issues facing upstream oil and gas industry companies – including carbon, GHG, water, energy, EHS, product stewardship, regulatory trends and their associated risks and opportunities – with the ability to translate these to relevant economic impacts for the business
  • Ability to effectively present and communicate detailed technical concepts across multiple organizational levels from executive to staff-level and technical to commercially focused team members
  • Ability to develop high-quality presentation materials and deliver sustainability messages to senior audiences Preferred Minimum Requirements
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or related field
  • Preferred 5 years or greater EH&S experience
  • Oil and gas industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of industry and government EHS standards and regulations
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Solid problem solving skills and be recognized as results oriented
  • Effective interpersonal and team communication skills
  • The ability to be self-directed and self-motivated and the ability to be team player
