The Division for Statistical and Data Sciences (DSDS) is seeking a survey research statistician to work on projects in a variety of domains such as public health, health care, and social science studies as well as sample survey and experimental designs and statistical research. Currently comprised of more than 125 statisticians and data scientists, DSDS is one of the largest and most comprehensive in private industry. RTI statisticians conduct cutting-edge research in survey and sample design, modeling, and statistical analysis.
Responsibilities
As a Survey or Sampling Statistician, you will perform the following duties:
- Serve as a technical expert improving the quality, timeliness, and accessibility of commercial fisheries logbook data and information by ensuring high quality review and evaluation of landings statistics on a diverse array of federally managed and state managed fish stocks to external agencies and stakeholders.
- Co-lead special research initiatives on emerging topics in sampling and panel research.
- Develop innovative sampling designs and statistical analysis procedures for complex projects and proposals.
- Generate weights and other adjustments, perform imputation, oversee quality control procedures, and lead or advise on advanced analytics for existing projects.
- Support and lead efforts to advance data integration and sample blending methodologies.
- Collaborate on proposals and business development to secure research funding.
- Develop descriptions of sampling and weighting plans that are suitable for proposals and project reports.
- Develop innovative sampling design and analysis procedures and solutions to problems where established theories and techniques have not been identified or where established procedures are not yet available.
- Assist with training and mentoring of less experienced statisticians.
- Participate in appropriate professional development and scientific stature activities, including publications, presentations, independent research, professional service and continuing education.
- Assist with budget development through estimation of the labor and other resources needed to successfully implement sampling and analysis plans.
- Compose technical reports suitable for lay audiences.
Qualifications
- PhD degree in in statistics, or a directly related field with at least 6 years of nonacademic related experience.
- Established publication record in the past 5 years.
- Hands-on experience with survey sampling, with preference for experience with address-based sampling, panel methods, and online samples.
- Demonstrated experience in sampling design development, nonresponse adjustment procedures, and analysis of data from complex sample surveys.
- Demonstrated ability in the design and execution of high-quality quantitative research.
- Ability to convey complex and technical topics to non-academic and/or non-technical audiences, both verbally and in written form.

- Strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, while maintaining a strong client service orientation.
- Unflagging attention to detail and commitment to the accuracy and completeness of information, quality of results, and robustness of findings.
- Strong oral and written skills (as demonstrated in a writing sample and presentation).
