The Orlando VA Healthcare System is looking for a Part-Time Surgical Technician. The Operating Room Surgical Technologist assists the surgeon in performing surgical procedures and manages/directs the sterile field during the procedure. The OR Surgical Technologist is responsible for all aspects of the technical preparation for the participation in surgical procedures. The individual displays a broad knowledge base and proficiency related to all types of surgical procedures in 8 operative services, including ophthalmology, general, plastics, gyn, ortho, podiatry, ENT and urology. The individual evaluates and collects all needed instrumentation, equipment, positioning devices, suture material, and special devices needed for any of the multitude of surgical procedures performed in this versatile, fast paced Surgery Suite. Physical Requirements: The work requires long periods of standing with few breaks, as well as lifting, bending, positioning patients, and some movement of cumbersome equipment. Good body mechanics, personal stamina, and excellent powers of concentration are necessary to participate in lengthy procedures. Travel Required
QualificationsTo qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.
