PSE's Customer Solutions team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Supv Metering Netwk Services position!

Job Description

Supervises activities in assigned area of responsibility related to installation and maintenance of electric metering, maintenance of gas and electric AMR (Automated Meter Readers) and AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure), as well as customer field responsibilities. Provides customers with safe, accurate and reliable metering devices. Maintains supplies, equipment and tools.


Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.


This position may be subject to random DOT drug and/or alcohol testing.

Job Responsibilities
  • Employee Safety, Development & Team Building - Providing employees with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
    • Demonstrates a passion for safety. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety including eliminating at- risk behaviors by conducting safety audits and inspections, eliminating hazards and near misses, and attending safety meetings.
    • Sets clear expectations and holds employees accountable for performance as well as safety goals/targets where applicable.
    • Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions. Ensures required training is successfully completed.
    • Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results.
    • Accountable to ensure employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements, as well as safety standards.
    • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
    • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve employee, business, customer and safety results.
    • Manages the workload for efficient day-to-day operations and maintains appropriate staffing levels for activities related to the customer, including installation and maintenance of electric and gas metering devices and maintenance of AMR’s/AMI’s, as well as field collection and investigation functions, reconnects/disconnects and associated activities.
    • Ensures AMR/AMI technologies are maintained, tested and utilized to support daily operations and accurate customer billing, as well as resolves related issues.
    • Works in partnership with various departments and vendors to ensure billing and metering accuracy. Ensures electric metering standards are followed with the service providers, electrical contractors and other PSE departments.
    • Maintains inventory levels for field personnel to support AMR/AMI meter maintenance. Actively participates in Labor Management Tool Committee.
    • Provides on-going support, guidance and training to the Local Joint Apprentice Training Committee (LJATC) and Labor Management Training Committee (LMTC). Prepares all field employees for journey level by providing on-going training, evaluation and testing, as well as guidance in field responsibilities. Coaches and mentors staff in all aspects of their job, including the Meter Apprentice Program.
    • Monitors and assists in managing O&M and capital budget.
    • Works collaboratively with the leadership team and other departments to establish and implement consistent practices that meet customer service expectations.
    • Performs emergency duty supervisor rotation and responds to call-outs and other company-wide emergencies during core and non-core hours.
    • Works in partnership with internal departments towards continuous improvement of processes and procedures.
    • Works closely with safety group to promote and support safe work practices.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s in business or engineering; or 5 years experience in gas or electric trade.
  • Previous field supervision and customer service experience.
  • Knowledge of metering practices including test, repair and calibration of equipment, AMR, new construction, operations and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of field collection requirements and business processes as they relate to revenue management and other departments.
  • Excellent customer and employee relations skills including problem solving, conflict resolution and team building.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a wide variety of individuals and groups internal and external; work independently on diverse and demanding projects; plan and implement new programs and processes.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Gas and Electric Operating Standards, WUTC (Washington Utility Trade Commission) regulations, rates, tariffs, RCW and WAC rules.
  • Technical metering experience.
  • Knowledge of CIS, SAP, Navigator, Mobile Workforce management tools, AMR applications and MS Office applications.
  • Experience working with collective bargaining agreements and application of rules.
