Position Title: First Place Kids Support Staff
Reports to: First Place Kids Program Director
FTE: 7-10 hrs/week Wage: $16/hr Hours: * Tuesdays & Wednesdays: 2:30-5pm * Thursdays: 5-7pm * Saturdays 1x month: 9am-2pm * Additional on-call hours available
Located within St. Vincent de Paul’s First Place Family Center, First Place Kids (FPK) is a unique program that addresses the multifaceted needs of children and families who are experiencing homelessness in Lane County. FPK provides integrated services to a vulnerable population unlike any other program in our community. We emphasize a wrap-around model where children receive the attention and care they need and parents are given tools that strengthen their skills and build protective factors that mitigate the negative impacts of trauma. First Place Kids offers four areas of programming:
- Family Resource Referrals
- Family Support Activities
We are currently hiring a Support Staff for our program; please note that due to the unprecedented COVID-19 circumstances it has been necessary to adapt our program to meet the emergent needs of the families we serve. The candidate hired for this position must possess strong skills sets which can be flexible to align with the needs of the program. Position Responsibilities Family Support Activities Responsibilities:
- Co-facilitate weekly evidence-based parent education events, such as: Parent Café, Triple P Parent Discussions, Make Parenting A Pleasure series.
- Co-facilitate weekly Family Enrichment Events such as music classes, movement classes, arts/craft classes, etc.
- Coordinate & facilitate monthly Family Wellness Events such as Dental Day, medical clinics, children’s mental health provider visits, etc.
- Provide childcare for monthly YFS Consumer Advisory Board meetings.
- Co-facilitate one-time events such as Family Fun Days, school enrollment events, etc. Childcare Classroom Responsibilities:
- Work as a substitute Lead Staff in classrooms as needed (additional paid hours available). Volunteer, Parent, and Collogue Responsibilities:
- Develop positive relationships with parents; talking to them regularly about their child's experience and work with them on challenges and concerns.
- Attend weekly FPK staff meetings.
- Attend SVDP Youth & Family Services full staff meetings as needed. Additional Responsibilities:
- Act as a Mandatory Reporter in accordance to abuse reporting laws.
- Maintain appropriate documentation, as assigned by FPK Program Director.
- Conduct job responsibilities in consideration of professional boundaries, confidentiality, and strength-based interactions within the scope of SVDP & FPK Policies & Procedures. Qualifications and Skills Preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish/English
- Experience leading parent education groups
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and positive discipline techniques
- Experience working with families from diverse socio-economic backgrounds Required * Ability to supervise children and ensure a safe environment.
- Ability to respond to emergent needs of a busy classroom and outdoor play areas. This includes the physical ability to move quickly and respond to children who are very active.
- Ability to interact with children at their eye level; sitting in child-sized chairs, kneeling, stooping, and bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to relate sensitively and non-judgmentally with children and parents.
- Experience functioning with flexibility in high stress situations.
- Ability to adhere to agency philosophies regarding curriculum and safety.
- Dependable and flexible. * Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen
