QualificationsIn order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Requirement:
For the GS -05 level: Applicants must have three years of progressively responsible general experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-4 level; OR successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree; OR combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. General experience is experience that involved dealing with others in person-to-person work situations, in obtaining and providing a variety of services for an organization, or other work that demonstrated the ability to perform successfully the work of the position to be filled.
For the GS-6 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5); OR one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as Business or Public Administration, or other administrative or management fields related to the position being filled); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Examples of specialized experience are: assembled monthly expenditures for operating budget reporting; Reviewed correspondence for grammatical accuracy; Purchased, received, and distributed supplies and special order items, including reconciling purchases in a database and monitoring when additional supplies needed to be ordered. For the GS-7 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level; OR one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (for example Business or Public Administration, or other administrative or management fields related to the position being filled);OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the methods and procedures for providing or performing a variety of functions and services applicable to the position to be filled; ability to plan, organize, and control work involving diverse activities; ability to gain cooperation and coordinate the work of others; and skill in oral and written communications. Examples of specialized experience are: collecting and analyzing budgetary information and statistical data for use in the formulation and execution of budget requests and reports; Purchasing supplies, equipment, and services; Creating travel orders and vouchers; Composing, typing, and proofreading correspondence and narrative and tabular material (i.e., databases and spreadsheets).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
