Support Services Assistant Details

The
Support Services Assistant may be assigned to a variety of service positions
throughout WVUH, including Material Handling Attendant, Equipment Handling
Attendant, Housekeeping Assistant, Dietetic Assistant, Support Associate, and
Linen Services Attendant. The Support Services Assistant will report to the
Central Transport Department at the beginning of their assigned shift to
receive their daily assignment and must report to the assigned department and
position for that shift. The Support Services Assistant will not have the
right to refuse to work their assignment provided the assignment is one of
the following positions, Material Handling Attendant, Equipment Handling
Attendant, Housekeeping Assistant, Dietetic Assistant, Support Associate, and
Linen Services Attendant.

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1.

Must have a valid Food Service
Worker Permit (FSWP) from Monongalia County Health Department (MCHD) prior to
starting OR obtain a MCHD Temporary FSWP no later than the first Wednesday of
employment and a permanent MCHD FSWP within 1 month of start date (next available
class). Must have a valid NCHD FSWP throughout employment.

2.

Obtain certification in HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.

PREFERRED

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1.

High School Diploma or Equivalent is
preferred.

2.

The
Support Associate role is a position providing support to the patient care
team as well as directly attending to certain, specified needs of the
patient. The Support Associate
performs the transportation of patients to and from testing areas and other
areas as needed. The Support Associate
also transports various items throughout the facility.

3.

All
duties listed and assigned to the Housekeeping Assistant position (see
Housekeeping Assistant job description for full list of duties and responsibilities).

4.

Cleans
areas of responsibility utilizing proper procedures. Maintains productivity
and cost effectiveness. Teamwork oriented.

5.

All duties
listed and assigned to the Dietetic Assistant position (see Dietetic
Assistant job description for full list of duties and responsibilities).

6.

Dietetic
Assistants may be assigned a variety of fundamental food service duties.
Typical assignments include patient tray line (meal assembly), dish room,
utilities (floors and trash), cafeteria server, and cold food production.
Work as a team to deliver high quality food and service to patients and
customers.

7.

All duties
listed and assigned to the Linen Services Attendant position (see Linen

8.

Performs
all activities associated with the retrieval of soiled linen, processing of
linen and distribution of clean linen.

9.

All duties
listed and assigned to the Material Handling Attendant position (see Material
Handling Attendant job description for full list of duties and
responsibilities).

10.

Receives,
inventories, stocks, issues, handles, and distributes all supplies, equipment
and instrumentation used throughout West Virginia University Hospitals which
are the responsibility of Materials Management. Includes maintaining adequate inventory
levels of supplies (stock) required to support activities for Surgical
Services room stock.

11.

stand for entire shift.

Pushing/pulling
carts or beds weighing up to 200 pounds.

pull a fully loaded meal cart up to 250 pounds.

8.

Pushing
loaded supply carts weighting in excess of 600 pounds.

9.

Must
possess visual and oral acuity.
