Job Summary

The Supplier Quality Technician works as an integral participant of the AFL Supplier Quality Assurance and Supply Chain organization. As part of the Quality Organization, the Supplier Quality Technician will be responsible for monitoring incoming material quality to ensure products shipped from the supplier conforms to documented requirements. The Supplier Quality Technician will inspect and approve incoming materials by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, and rejecting unacceptable materials. In addition, the Supplier Quality Technician shall document inspection results by completing reports and records, summarizing data into a quality database.


Responsibilities

  • Perform incoming inspection on raw materials and finished products in accordance with established procedures, supporting multiple AFL business units.
  • Approve or reject items, document inspection results as required into quality system, and compare findings with specifications to ensure conformance to standards.
  • Utilize various measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, hardness tester, etc.
  • Generate and complete quality documentation such as first article reports, inspection records and non-conformance material reports.
  • Communicate to appropriate personnel any necessary issues, findings, etc.
  • Collect samples and complete necessary documentation for lab testing.
  • Perform material data sheet audits, comparing AFL material specifications to supplier test results.
  • Use electronic MRP system to route material to proper departments.
  • Perform material requalification audit with support from AFL Engineering.
  • Support the qualification/ validation of new material/suppliers.
  • Participate in the non-conforming materials review (NCMIR) process to ensure that non-conforming materials are properly handled at multiple AFL facilities.
  • Assist with the investigation of supplier related issues, including containment and root cause analysis activities.
  • Maintain and track Supplier COPQ (Cost of Poor Quality).
  • Compile weekly and monthly supplier/material performance quality reports.
  • Provide input into improving existing inspection procedures and process.
  • Perform an active role in further Supplier continuous improvement within the AFL Quality Management System.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the Supplier Quality Engineer in line with company goals and objectives.
  • Adhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of inspection experience.
  • 1-3 years of supplier quality experience.
  • Must be able to use measuring equipment (Calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.)
  • Proficient user of MS Office application.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Proficient technical and third person writing skills.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to work well independently and with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions

Normal office and warehouse working conditions, light lifting and maneuvering steps up/down several times per day.
