Situated in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg on Florida’s Gulf coast, Bayfront Health St. Petersburg has served the residents of the region for more than 100 years and joined the Orlando Health system in 2020. Bayfront Health St. Petersburg is a 480-bed tertiary care center equipped to provide comprehensive medical and surgical care. The hospital offers many areas of expertise, including surgery and trauma, neuroscience, cardiology, acute rehabilitation and obstetrics. The hospital has a 38-bed neurosciences unit with a dedicated neurology team consisting of board-certified neuroscience specialists and physicians with subspecialty expertise in stroke, epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease, and includes a Level IV Epilepsy Center. In partnership with Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Baby Place offers full obstetrical services and is a Level III Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Center, one of only 12 in Florida. The hospital also is home to the Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Cardiac Cath Lab, located in the James Heart Center, which offers a full range of cardiovascular care and an on-site inpatient rehabilitation unit, as well as the nearby Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center.

Position Summary

The supervisor has daily responsibility for sterile processing and instrument delivery processes within the facility.

Education/Training

Associate degree. Four (4) years of directly related work experience may substitute for the Associate degree (in addition to the requirements listed in the Experience section).

Licensure/Certification

Maintains one of the following certifications:

  • ? Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through the International Association of Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM); or
  • ? Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) through the International Association of Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM); or
  • ? SPD Technician Certification (CSPDT) through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD); or
  • ? Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Manager (CSPDM) through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD); or
  • ? Certified in Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).

Experience

Three (3) years of directly related work experience. Must possess working knowledge of sterile processing processes.

Essential Functions

  • ? Directs activities related to all aspects of the instrument delivery and on-site sterilization processes.
  • ? Assists in departmental work processes. Provides a safe and cost-effective process for packaging and protecting instrumentation for sterilization, transportation, storage, and aseptic presentations.
  • ? Responsible for ongoing sterilization efficacy testing to ensure that sterilization processes meet regulatory requirements.
  • ? Responsible for presenting a positive representation of corporate and departmental services.
  • ? Responsible for human resource management to achieve quality services and positive employee relations.
  • ? Remains professional under stress and is responsible for communication interdepartmentally as well as intradepartmentally to ensure that information is shared for effective daily operations.
  • ? Works with the educator to ensure that ongoing on-site education is provided based on both individual and departmental needs.
  • ? Coordinates staffing needs and reviews coverage requirements on daily basis. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, evaluating and coaching of team members with the manager.
  • ? Coordinates operating activities with other departments as necessary.
  • ? Focuses on a proactive approach in anticipating and preventing potential problems within the department.
  • ? Manages various human resources functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and performance counseling.
  • ? Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • ? Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

  • ? Actively participates in departmental performance improvement activities with the manager.
  • ? Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • ? Actively participates in both formal and informal educational programming.
