You belong at ChildRoots, a small family of locally- and woman-owned child care centers in Portland, Oregon.

We’d love to receive your application to work with us as a Substitute or Break Support. You’ll make $16.25/hour and be eligible for excellent, affordable medical/dental/vision/life insurance, a 401(k) retirement savings plan with a generous company match, and paid time off.

A Part-Time Substitute works when they're available and when we need help covering for staff members who are sick or taking time off - a perfect role for someone looking for rewarding work but also plenty of time for other pursuits.

A Full-time Substitute works a guaranteed number of hours per week, filling in for ill or vacationing coworkers. This role is perfect for someone who's adaptable, adventurous, and interested in working on a regular basis and with a variety of ages.

Break Support works 30-40 hours per week, stepping in for Teachers rest and meal breaks. This role is perfect for someone who's reliable and excited to be a valued part of several stable classroom groups.

Continuity of care is a cornerstone of our educational philosophy, so we welcome you to make yourself at home and stay with us for at least a year, if not more.

We're a pro-vaccination community and require all employees and enrolled parents to be fully vaccinated against COVID. As eager as we are to move past this pandemic, we're committed to maintaining our safety protocols (socializing responsibly, daily health checks, masks, stable groups, cleaning and sanitation, exclusion, etc) for as long as it takes to keep our community safe.

To work with us in a classroom role, you MUST BE teacher-qualified in Early Childhood Education and currently enrolled in Oregon's Central Background Registry.

  • Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect online course
  • Prevention is Better than Treatment online course
  • Safe Sleep for Oregon's Infants online course
