Title: Substitute


Supervisor: Center Director/Cluster Manager


I. General Description


It is the responsibility of Substitutes to function as an assistant with groups of children according to assignment by the Center Director.


II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities


1. Assist the Teacher of any group as assigned by the Center Director;


2. Assist with plans and procedures for meeting individual needs of children in the group and assist in all tasks related to the activities of the children;


3. Attend Parents' Meetings, center activities, and center staff meetings as requested;


4. Be responsible for the group when the Teacher is absent or out of the group;


5. Be acquainted with Agency Personnel Policies and use them as a guide for a positive working relationship with the agency;


6. Perform the duties of Bus Monitor. Please see attached Bus Monitor for Job Description detailed below.


7. Be available to work at any of the Guilford Child Development Centers when needed.


III. Essential Qualifications


1. Early Childhood Child Care Credentials preferred. High school diploma or GED required and must obtain Early Childhood Child Care Credentials within twelve months of hire. Bi lingual (Spanish) preferred.


2. Demonstrated ability to adjust to working with different age groups of children.


3. Demonstrated ability to perform effectively the duties required for the job including

verbal ability to communicate, auditory capacity to respond to children and adults, visual ability to complete written assignments and physical ability to complete assignments given accommodations required by law.


Title: Bus Monitor


Supervisor: Center Director


I. General Description


It is the responsibility of the Bus Monitor to work under the supervision of the Center Director when duties relate to the transportation of children. It is also the bus monitor’s responsibility to ensure the safety of all children being transported.


II. Responsibilities


1. Ensure the safety of the children as first (1) priority.


2. Properly secure the children in appropriate height and weight child restraint system.


3. Attend all trainings relating to Transportation (First Aid, CPR, and Transportation Policies and Procedures).


4. Fill out and turn in appropriate paper work.


5. Must wear seat belt unless assisting children.


6. Must conduct a Pre- Trip and Post- Trip inspection (which includes looking under seats) for children or any articles that may be left on bus.


7. Assist in emergency evacuations as well as being prepared to administer CPR/First Aid while on the bus.


8. Perform safe loading and unloading procedures.


9. Create a seating chart using the children’s name and picture.


10. Must get teacher/assistant teacher to sign off on the daily transportation roster sheet of the children that are assigned to their room.


11. Check attendance in the morning (am route) and evening (pm route).


12. Maintain updated emergency contact information with family advocates for each child on the bus.


13. Make sure items are properly stored on the bus.


Must be available for and work willingly on other assigned tasks.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk hear, taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, color, peripheral depth and the ability to adjust focus


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
