Description: Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned): Organizes a well-ordered environment (study hall, study lab, or I.S.S.) period by period. Maintains all records of study hall, study lab, or I.S.S. attendance and absences, as well as passes in accordance with school policies. Supervises seatwork or study hall, study lab, or I.S.S. situations on a routine and ongoing basis. May assist teachers in monitoring student progress on specific assignments. Will devise an effective set of study hall, study lab, or I.S.S. rules in conjunction with the principals, and will implement these rules with appropriate consistency and fairness. Work with the building MTSS team to collect, track, and coordinate behavior, attendance, and academic data for use in decision-making processes. Work with students on behavioral intervention activities in an effort to reduce or extinguish unacceptable behaviors at school. Minimize disruption to study hall, study lab, or I.S.S., while using skills to address the needs of these students. Assists with all attendance related tasks including receiving and documenting attendance calls managing discretionary absences regular attendance reporting and communication for deans Assists Assistant Principal Secretary as a primary communication and recording link in contacts with parents, students, teachers, counselors, administrators and juvenile probation authorities in matters pertaining to attendance and discipline. Enters behavior infractions and discipline data into Powerschool. Executes all certified letters on suspensions and drops for non-attendance and notifies all affected of consequences for attendance violations. Notifies parents, teachers and counselors of discipline decisions. Assists with data entry and reports for Check In-Check Out program. Assists in the management of the school’s 504 program as needed. May work with secretaries and others in duplicating, typing, creating educational materials, grading systems, and other materials as assigned or needed. May be called upon to assist with phone calls as assigned. May perform timings with students, or otherwise assist in monitoring student progress on specific assignments. May assist with special school events such as Back to School Night, etc. May assist in grading various papers and subject materials as assigned. Performs other such duties as are assigned by the principals or their designee. Treats all matters of school business in a confidential manner. Individuals in this position may work in study halls, In School Suspension (I.S.S.), and other academic support settings. as well as act as a Campus Monitor. Under general supervision and close direction of the principal, performs a variety of monitoring and support tasks in a study hall/lab or in-school suspension situation, including organizing study halls, monitoring student study habits and assisting students when time and skills permit. Persons in this position are distinguished by the variety of background experiences which allow for interaction with and general supervision of students, a sense of propriety, confidentiality, and good humor, the ability to maintain a willing compliance for rules, the ability to interpret and enforce school policies and to maintain an appropriate level of discipline, the ability to be alert to students and their needs, and to directly seek out ways in which to assist students with their work.
High school diploma or GED plus two years post-secondary education. Previous experience working with high school school age children preferred.
