The Dept. of Anthropology seeks to hire one or more qualified Student Assistants whose work will support a faculty member’s NGO (non-governmental organization) research project.

The Dept. of Anthropology seeks to hire one or more qualified Student Assistants whose work will support a faculty member’s NGO (non-governmental organization) research project.

Duties and Responsibilities :

The Student Assistant(s) will train and work closely with both the Anthropology Faculty Member and a Data Management Librarian. Primary responsibilities include assessing various health NGO documents and cataloging their metadata using Excel (or Google Sheets) and the Open Science Framework platform as part of the development of a database of documents from the NGO Safe Blood for Africa (SBFA). Experience in either of these platforms or both is a huge plus.


Qualifications :

  • Must currently be enrolled as an Ithaca College student.
  • Open to all majors but preference given to Anthropology Majors who are of sophomore standing or above with a 3.0+ Overall GPA.
  • We are seeking responsible, friendly, dedicated, detail-oriented individuals with good organizational and communication skills. Students with a strong interest in supporting the Dept. of Anthropology are encouraged to apply.
  • Knowledge and/or interest and enthusiasm for cultural anthropology, medical anthropology, medical humanities, health communication, global public health and/or medicine in the African context is desirable as the Student Assistant will be dealing with materials that involve medical terminology largely related to blood transfusion and using medical subject headings conventions (i.e., MeSH and the online platform called MeSH on Demand).
  • Facility and knowledge of other programs including MS Office Suite, Google Suite, Zotero (or other citation management software), and NVivo (or other qualitative data analysis software) are also appreciated though not required.
