A successful candidate will play an active role in FMU's academic programs and collaborate with staff and administration to ensure students and guests are provided with opportunities and services to help them succeed.

Essential Duties:

Student Assistant shall have the primary responsibility for supporting the Office of Admissions in maximizing the University’s operating performance while achieving institutional goals and objectives as it pertains to enrollment. Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide information and assistance to prospective and current students, parents, high school counselors, and other university and community stakeholders. This includes handling a high volume of student traffic in person and over the telephone with a friendly, courteous and professional demeanor.
  • Provides clerical support to the Director, Assistant Director, Admissions Recruiters, and Administrative Assistant, to include word processing, photocopying, call campaigns,
  • Always Maintains confidentiality of student records information.
  • Processes incoming admissions applications received either in person, by mail, or electronically.
  • Assists with providing Campus Tours to prospective students, families, and community partners.
  • Must also have excellent customer service, organizational and time management skills.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishments of the responsibilities and functions of the Human Resources department.
  • The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.

  • Possess excellent communication and customer service skills; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relations with students, faculty, and university administrators.
  • Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to handle information of sensitive and confidential nature in the utmost professional manner. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability.
  • Effective analytical and decision-making skills. Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and time management skills. Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse constituents.
  • Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average-weight up to fifty (50) pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Qualifications:

  • FMU student must have a 2.8 cumulative GPA or higher. The position requires all applicants to have cleared the business office and currently enrolled with a minimum of nine (9) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Ability to make entry level decisions and a willingness to ask questions. Student Assistant should also demonstrate responsibility, initiative, timeliness, and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to take direction and work independently as needed.
  • Technical Skills: knowledge of technology/office equipment and willingness to learn new information systems and software; proficiency in the use of computer applications and MS Office Suite (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Advanced proficiency of Microsoft Office Suites, as well as knowledge and understanding of organization structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  • Extensive hours and weekends will be required at times.
  • Pre-Employment screening is required: criminal background check and drug testing.
