POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the effective functioning of the Lifeline Program. Crisis counselors (both volunteer and paid staff) receive calls from individuals experiencing behavioral health crises and/or suicidality 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.

The ability to recruit and retain talented volunteers who feel motivated and inspired to be a part of an essential community resource is paramount to the success of this position. This Staffing Coordinator possesses excellent organizational skills as well as the ability to communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences with the goal of ensuring that the Lifeline Program is always staffed with efficient, professional, and reliable individuals.

WMMHC’s Suicide Prevention Lifeline is provided through a partnership with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, a nationwide-network of call center providers that sets standards and requirements for a nationwide network of suicide prevention call centers. Adherence to Lifeline protocols in tense and stressful situations is a critical aspect of working as a Crisis Counselor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Embody and model the goals and values of WMMHC
  • Focus the volunteer crisis counsellors on meeting the objectives of the WMMHC Lifeline Crisis Line
  • Recruit, onboard, train, support and supervise volunteers on all shifts
  • Develop and maintain volunteer training and orientation program
  • Maintains 24/7 volunteer scheduling and coverage
  • Be familiar with all incoming calls on a weekly basis and work with volunteers on specific issues as needed
  • Ensures all caller contacts are correctly recorded in documentation software; provides coaching and training as needed
  • Supervise and review volunteer call reports during their shift
  • Ensure appropriate follow up with callers has been completed
  • Communicate effectively with volunteer team, clinical supervisors, and manager
  • Maintain assessment and call recording software
  • Participate in case review and support with clinical supervisor(s)
  • Engage in continuing professional education as necessary to maintain currency
  • Be familiar with resources available in the communities we serve
  • Seek and be available for consultation and support of volunteers
  • Be familiar with all agency programming
  • Supervise after-hours answering services for other agencies and counselors, as arranged.
  • Provides timely and effective supervision of volunteers using the principles of accountability
  • Assist in the updating of referral and emergency contact information
  • Maintain positive relationships with other Lifeline call centers and community partners
  • Uses designated agency communication methods effectively
  • Additional duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in health or business-related field or relevant experience
  • Minimum of two years of experience in supervision or coordination of staff and or volunteers
  • Successful ability to manage and inspire teams in difficult work
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and in listening
  • Experience working with individuals diagnosed with Serious and Disabling Mental Illness (SDMI) or those experiencing suicidality preferred

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of CPI within 90 days of hire (Crisis Prevention Intervention), First Aid, CPR training required
  • Ability to pass background check and driver’s license check upon offer of employment.
  • Provide proof of auto liability insurance coverage per Western’s policies.
  • Current valid driver’s license with good driving record if required to transport clients while on work duty
