Job Title: Staff Nurse


Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Nursing assessment is based on interview, examination, observation and review of records of the patient
  • Develops a goal oriented care plan based on the nursing assessment, with participation of patient and significant others
  • Nursing actions are consistent with the care plan and medical regimen and hospital procedures
  • Demonstrates a competent level of technical skill
  • Duties specific to Endoscopy Department
  • Sets up procedure rooms for specific procedures
  • Performs equipment check prior to start of procedure
  • Reports equipment malfunction to ANCC/NM
  • Prepares patients for procedures: pre-procedure assessment, IV insertion, proper positioning of patients for procedures.
  • Assists in endoscopic and related procedures
  • Documents in Provation MD and Provation MulticareGiver
  • Performs clerical functions: stamp specimen requisitions, labels, etc
  • Performs supply inventories, reports supply needs to ANCC/NM
  • Patient’s progress, or lack of progress, is reflected is the progress notes and in the revised care plans
  • Discharge planning is consistent with the patient’s status and reflects inter-departmental and inter-agency communication
  • Communication of information to the patient is based on the patient’s level of awareness and readiness to learn
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area.
  • Utilization of Personnel Resources
  • Supports orientation of new staff members by observing professional behaviors, providing feedback to the staff member and by acting as a role model and a resource person
  • Patient care assignments reflect awareness of patient needs and skill level of personnel
  • Organization of provision of care meets priority needs of patients and unit.
  • Condition of patients and unit requiring additional intervention is communicated to the leadership person in the relevant discipline.
  • Adaptation to changing departmental needs reflects awareness of the needs of the Hospital Center.
  • Time management meets needs of the unit/department.
  • Maybe required to perform charge nurse responsibilities when necessary.
  • Interpretation of Policy
  • Feedback on policies affecting nursing practice is provided to the Nurse Manager
  • Behavior and nursing actions are consistent with the policies of the Department of Nursing and the Hospital Center
  • Performance Improvement
  • Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities.
  • Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information.
  • Utilization of Material Resources
  • Need for supplies and equipment necessary for carrying out the plan of care is identified and communicated to the relevant person.
  • Utilizes material resources effectively, minimizes wastes.
  • Participates in the development of other staff members.
  • Participates in staff development activities and staff meetings.
  • Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements.
  • Identifies learning strengths and needs
  • Reflects awareness of personal and professional development needs by participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences.
  • Utilizes learning resources.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited Nursing program. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum of 2 years' endoscopy nursing experience preferred
  • Basic EKG interpretation and IV skills required.
  • Licensed and currently registered or otherwise duly authorized to practice as a professional nurse in New York State
  • BLS and ACLS thorugh AHA required.
  • CGRN recommended after 2 years GI experience.
