The Clinical Educator works with Avow’s management staff to address concerns/problems associated

with the delivery of clinical services. The Clinical Educator will actively participate in the orientation of

new clinical staff to include nursing, CNA’s, Social Worker and Pastoral/Chaplain Staff, ensuring

orientation processes meet all regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Instruct staff on their responsibility in following the Compliance and Ethics Program.
  • Detect non-compliance and follow up as appropriate.

Job Duties:

  • Oversees the internal Staff Education Department.
  • Conducts needs analysis study with staff at least every two years.
  • Complies data and analyzes past and current year training requirements to prepare budgets and justify funds requested.
  • Develops the education objectives and ensures objectives are achieved annually.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate educational programs to ensure staff demonstrates clinical competency, professional development, knowledge about hospice and palliative care, and compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert in the area of clinical skills required for Hospice Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) staff.
  • Complete joint visits with nursing staff to increase technical skill set and to facilitate transition from novice to expert hospice RN/LPN.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates continuing education programs, curriculums for orientation and ongoing professional development of clinical staff that meet and/or exceed national standards for continuing education requirements while ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory agencies.
  • Trains assigned instructors and supervisory personnel in effective techniques for training, such as new employee’s, orientation, on the job training (OJT), sales techniques, health and safety practices, management development, and adaptations to changes in policies, procedures, and technologies.
  • Researches and recommends outside consultants and trainers to conduct specialized training topics.
  • Establish and manage preceptor programs with universities and colleges and provide orientation for students as needed.
  • Collaborate with the hospice leadership to coordinate new employee orientations.
  • Develop and monitor competencies in conjunction with discipline specific managers.
  • Prepare and maintain statistical reports to evaluate presenters and topics of in-services.
  • Develop and maintain training manuals, reference library, testing and evaluating procedures, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.
  • Serves on organizational committees as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with the Safety Officer on issues regarding infection control and safety topics.
  • Provides information to CE Broker to obtain approval for CEU offerings for internal/external education.
  • Provide direct patient care by assuming a case load as needed/requested by the Chief Clinical Officer or CEO.
  • Daily, weekly, and monthly tracking of activities utilizing standardized processes.
  • Develop patient education materials.
  • Coordinate FIT testing, employee health screenings and employee health needs in collaboration with clinical teams on an ongoing basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Computer Skills:

Knowledge of basic typing skills, data entry and word processing software. Database software and

general knowledge of e-mail is preferred.

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree preferred. Bachelor’s degree required and/or equivalent teaching experience. Previous

educational experience required. Must have practiced within the last five years in the scope of RN.

Mathematical Skills:

Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages/fractions.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an

extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract

and concrete variables.
