OVERVIEW

POSITION PURPOSE

The Lead, System Test Engineer is an integral member of the ALST Engineering team. This individual is responsible for designing, configuring and aligning optical equipment to precisely measure critical laser parameters at the system and subsystem levels. This person will also be responsible for leading test documentation, test system development and test execution for military fielded laser range finders and laser designators.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include

  • Leads / Coordinates / Performs optical testing for the development of laser range finders and laser designators.
  • Works from customers’ documents and internal L3Harris specifications to develop complete test plans and test procedures which he/she will lead.
  • Conducts trade studies to determine the most efficient and reliable testing protocols.
  • Works with Cross-Functional engineers to ensure compliance with company development process standards and identify/recommend improvements to the development process.
  • Attends, participates or leads a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies.
  • Trouble shoot issues and resolve problems on a variety of LRF or LD products.
  • Responsible for development and maintenance of all test assets and tools required to test and build new or legacy products.
  • Monitors and defines priorities for the projects he/she is working on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for ensuring that specified quality standards are met for all tasks completed.

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Optical Engineering from an accredited university or college, Masters Degree preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience with testing of military systems, experience testing lasers or electro-optical systems preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • This position requires the individual to have a well-rounded background with knowledge of testing methodology, general test equipment, EMI/EMC and optical test equipment.
  • He/she must also be capable of converting detailed specifications into clear test plans and procedures.
  • He / she must possess the ability to work with design and development engineers and production technicians to support product development and verification.
  • Proven ability to trouble shoot issues and resolve problems on a variety of products.
  • Ability to use oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • System and/or production test development.
  • Factory test systems development, design and documentation standards.
  • Real time production issue resolution.
  • Test software development using tools such as LabView, Python, and STREAMS (or equivalent).
  • Complex product support (installation, trouble-shooting, customer interface)
  • Possess exceptional communication (both oral and written) and listening skills, with a strong orientation to details, and the ability to make quick, informed decisions.
  • Must be able to effectively flow down system requirements into a system test plan.
  • Proven success in a fast paced development and manufacturing environment and possess a willingness to take ownership, accept accountability, and thrive under pressure.
  • Proven knowledge and history of performing DVT and qualification testing to Military Specifications/Standards.
  • Proven knowledge and history of performing standard EMI/EMC Testing.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience working with optics in environmental chambers, and clean rooms.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a US Citizen or US Person as defined by ITAR.
  • Pre-employment drug screening and background checks are standard.
  • Some repetitive motion activities.
  • Visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information.
  • Able to use a computer/keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Able to use office & test equipment and computers/peripherals, in a standard office & computer lab environment.
  • May be required to lift/move up to 25 lbs with assistance.
  • Fast paced, schedule driven environment.
  • Willing and able to work extended hours when necessary.
