We are at the epicenter of VMware's SaaS transformation journey and provide a highly compliant production grade set of Kubernetes clusters. We are looking for a talented Software Engineer to join our team whereby you will help build and maintain VMware's next generation cloud API management solution, as part of a passionate, hard-working and culturally diverse team. There are some extremely exciting Cloud Native projects being worked on that are highly strategic to VMware.

VMware’s globally distributed infrastructure platform is built using a combination of industry-standard open-source solutions and internally developed applications and is backed by the Kubernetes eco-system running on public cloud providers. The platform powers VMware's largest SaaS products in production, including VMware Cloud on AWS. The platform team is responsible for providing infrastructure services and tools to internal teams as self-service systems so that engineering teams can focus on delivering value to customers.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

• Within 30 days of employment, become familiar with VDP platform and standard operations. You will work closely with fellow SRE Engineers, Architects, management and internal Cloud operations to provide day-to-day operations support & enhancement for the VDP portfolio.
• Within 60 days of employment, participate in owning tasks and deliverables as part of the team Sprint project goals.
• Within 90 days of employment, you should be comfortable owning and leading projects relating to API management technologies, automation and best practices in test driven development.
• Within 180 days you will be responsible for delivering services/products as well as supporting and helping resolve internal technical issues through diligent research, reproduction, and troubleshooting.
• Within 360 days you will be developing and deploying a Production service on a regular release cadence with feedback from customers.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

As an engineer on this team, you will be contributing to VMware's central API Management solution in which all products at VMware will consume. Security, reliability and simplicity is the core objective in providing a centralized set of services consumed by internal VMware engineers and teams. You will be skilled in public cloud, security, API standards and best practices running on cloud native infrastructure using your software development skills to create a critical new service to the company.

On a regular basis you will:

• Build a net new product to achieve all a centralized control plane for VMware's SaaS API Management & Gateways
• Develop Kubernetes Custom Resource Definitions & Operators in Golang
• Work with Service Mesh technologies (Tanzu Service Mesh/Istio), Content Delivery (Akamai, Cloudfront, Incapsula), Avi Load Balancers and GSLBs
• Write design proposals, participate in architectural meetings and mentor other contributors.
• Develop and maintain high quality software that delivers on the team’s objectives primarily in typescript, python and terraform and Golang
• Participate in on-call rotation of the new product, providing operational support to our platform
• Participate in all team scrum ceremonies

This role will report to Alex Ho, the US Manager of the VMWare Deployment Platform Team (aka “VDP”) who has over 20+ years of technical experience in the industry. The team consists of highly competent engineers, staff, and senior staff members. We focus on iterative agile development in our SaaS platform components and in our development practices. The team is distributed globally and follows dynamic, open culture at work and encourages to learn from each other, teach others and grow along with others being collaborative and courteous. Where is this role located?

Remote: This role is fully remote, allowing you the flexibility to work from the location you feel most productive and comfortable. You will be expected to live within 0-4 time zones of the primary location.
