Job Summary:
This position will be hands on interacting, collaborating, and coordinating with colleagues and senior leadership in the Controller’s, FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Legal, HR, Fund Accounting and the business. Providing technical guidance on strategic business transactions, assessing accounting and reporting ramifications, developing accounting position papers, and determining appropriate conclusions. This position requires wide-breadth and in-depth expertise in US GAAP as well as extensive experience in financial reporting pertaining to financial institutions and financial instruments.
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
- Responsible for development of Invesco’s accounting policies and positions ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP
- Monitor and assess the impact of developing accounting rules and trends in US GAAP, including investment accounting, consolidation, and fair value reporting
- Partner with colleagues in the Treasury, Tax, Legal and Operations teams to structure corporate investments and support launch of new products
- Provide oversight and support to local accounting teams in recording local GAAP adjustments
- Support the business with accounting-related questions for new investment structures and transactions
- Review quarterly forms 10-Q and annual forms 10-K
- Support local controllers with International Financial Reporting Standards and local GAAPs
- Provide leadership in the end-to-end implementation of accounting policies and best practices with Finance Operations.
- Coordinating across the finance organization and leadership to understand current accounting and reporting requirements in order to facilitate effective and efficient implementation of new accounting guidance
- Represent Invesco in industry accounting standard working groups
- Provide leadership and vision to matrixed accounting policy team in finance’s Shared Services team, ensuring proper allocation of team tasks and execution of related analyses and reporting
- Perform ad hoc analysis/research projects as they arise
- Partner with business leaders to ensure new products and initiatives are accounted and reported properly
- Consult with local business units and external auditors on technical accounting matters and the application and development of accounting policies
- The ideal candidate will be able to implement industry best practices to Invesco’s application of U.S. GAAP. Provide Finance leadership with peer analysis of current industry trends and topics.
Work Experience / Knowledge:
- 8+ years SEC reporting/US GAAP accounting policy work experience required
- Knowledge of Financial Services Industry, Consolidation and Fair Value guidance is preferred
Skills / Other Personal Attributes Required:
- Provide leadership and vision to matrixed accounting policy and SOX and Controls in finance’s Shared Services team, ensuring proper allocation of team tasks and execution of related analyses and reporting
- Ability to simplify complex issues for a non-technical audience
- A growth mindset and a strong appetite to learn and develop are the key attributes needed to excel in this role
- Ability to quickly grasp and solve complex problems; deal with and manage change in a fluid environment.
- Prioritize multiple competing projects and initiatives and focus resources in line with such priorities
- Solid understanding of technical accounting concepts
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to empathize with a wide range of stakeholder perspectives
- Strong grasp of technology and systems. Ability to lead organization in adopting new technology and ensure it is properly utilized
- A track record of consistently achieving or exceeding goals
- Experience in the financial services industry is preferred
Formal Education: (minimum requirement to perform job duties)
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting required
- CPA
