SUMMARY
The Senior Estimator reads specifications, blue prints and apply local, state and federal requirements to generate project estimates using estimating software (HCSS or similar). S/he creates total cost estimates based on labor, materials, equipment, indirect expenses, overhead and profit (including self-performed and subcontractor work). S/he provides creative, cost-effective, safe solutions to solve actual/prospective client challenges and address their needs according to a scope and budget, and works to maintain/improve business relationships to enable future business growth. In addition, the Sr. Estimator leads/develops estimating teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include - but are not limited to - the following (others may be assigned):
- Leads and mentors a team of estimators on large/complex projects.
- Reads and understand digital/printed plans, specifications, and related documents.
- Performs quantity take-off (volumetric, linear, area) from digital and printed plans.
- Collects pricing from vendors/subcontractors; applies knowledge of regulations and requirements to verify sub/vendor compliance with specifications/plans.
- Based on bid guidelines, creates rough project schedules to accurately determine resources, costs.
- Creates purchase orders and understand cost coding system.
- Assists clients with preliminary site alternatives and budgeting.
- Effectively builds and maintains client relationships.
- Tracks project documentation and maintain accurate and complete files.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Has 4-year degree in civil engineering/construction management + 8+ years estimating experience (or equivalent combination).
- Has strong MS-Office Skills: Excel (including formulas), Word, Outlook (PowerPoint preferred); AgTek (or similar); HCSS (or similar); Active TakeOff (or similar).
- Has strong math skills (arithmetic, 2- and 3-dimensional geometry, trigonometry). PREFERRED: Knowledge of calculus.
- Mentors and leads a team of staff on large/complex projects.
- Meet strict deadlines in a high-volume business environment.
- Works independently with minimal supervision (yet asks for help as needed).
- Uses a variety of office equipment: fax/scanner/printer/copier, cell/desk telephone, PC/laptop/tablet.
- Ensure highly accurate estimates are created that comply with bid requirements.
- Has strong interpersonal, conflict management and communication skills; works collaboratively and cooperatively in team environment.
- Has valid driver s license and acceptable motor vehicle record; is willing to submit to background checks and drug tests as required.
- Willing to sign a confidentiality agreement.

- Mathematics — Uses mathematical methods or formulas to solve problems (arithmetic, 2-/3-dimensional geometry, algebra, trigonometry, perhaps calculus)
- Building & Construction — Knows materials, methods, tools and transportation (incl. moving materials, people) and costs involved in the construction or repair of underground (wet) utilities, buildings, highways, roads and related structures.
- Communication — Has strong working knowledge of English language (verbal, written); excellent listening, persuasion and negotiation skills; understands and responds appropriately to others; presents information effectively to a diverse set of people (subordinates, clients, subcontractors/vendors, members of the public).
- Business Development & Customer Service — Understands how to build and maintain relationships; understands client s needs and expectations; resolves conflict professionally; negotiates positive outcomes for company and clients.
- Safety & Security — Understands/applies relevant policies, procedures, equipment to prevent accidents/injuries; protect people, data, property.
- Analysis & Reasoning – Effectively orders and analyzes information; looks for patterns, potential/actual issues, as well as solutions.
- Complex Problem Solving & Judgment — Uses experience and knowledge to evaluate costs/benefits of potential solutions, then gives an optimal solutions.
- Time Management — Manages priorities to meet deadlines, produce high-quality work.
- Active Learning — Learns/applies new information/techniques to problems and decisions.
- Visualization — Knows how objects will look after moved/parts are rearranged.
