Job Summary:
As the Senior Credentialing Coordinator for Medical Staff Services operations, this role coordinates credentialing activities in accordance with department expectations, policies and procedures, regulatory and Joint Commission requirements under the direction of the Director of Medical Staff Services and guidance of the Lead Credentialing Coordinator. This role serves as a liaison between the Medical Staff and Medical Center Administration by providing insight into Medical Staff organization, bylaws, rules and regulations, State and Federal Regulatory Agencies, accreditation compliance and other critical matters that affect the healthcare environment. Job Responsibilities
Initiates and administers the credentialing process for the Medical Staff Office for initial applicants (Physicians, Dentists, Podiatrists, etc., and Advanced Practice Professional [APP] staff.)
Analyzes the application process and supporting documents for discrepancies and completeness. Verifies appropriate training and/or experience for clinical privileges requested.
Processes files based on applicant initial eligibility for membership, Identify and report adverse actions, sanctions or complaints taken against a physician or non-physician on an ongoing basis, in accordance with established departmental policies, Medical Staff Bylaws, legal, State and Federal agency, State licensing board, and TJC standards.
Reviews and presents all research/findings and forwards to departmental chairpersons, Medical Staff committees, and to the board for review and action.
Maintains the credentialing process for physicians and non-physicians for reappointment and/or renewal of clinical privileges.
Monitors the process by auditing reappointment credentials files for accuracy/completeness and forwarding to medical staff committee meetings to ensure timely and appropriate reappointment and privileging activities by established deadlines.
Maintains privilege form revision process on an ongoing basis and in preparation for reappointment cycle. Tracks and monitors revision process and complete necessary follow-up to ensure timely processing.
Audits, assesses, and maintains physician and non-physician credentialing processes and information systems (i.e. files, reports, minutes, databases) to improve efficiency, consistency, communication and in preparation for survey audits.
Participates in the development and/or updates to applicable governing documents and departmental processes that support and direct organizational practices and ensure compliance.
Actively participates and complies with departmental and medical staff goals and performance improvement activities.
Develops and implements tools and processes to support prioritization, knowledge management, database management, record-keeping, internal/external communication.
Establishes and maintains timelines and trends for onboarding performance metrics.
Supports and actively participates in short-term and long-term projects of all complexities related to medical staff affairs by assisting with project plans, resource availability, meeting project time limitations, and budget requirements.
Assist in training new credentialing staff on credentialing processes, duties, and responsibilities and acts as a resource.
Collaborates with Department Chairperson to develop and maintain facility-specific, criteria-based clinical privileging systems in accordance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards and organizational policies.
Tracking and maintaining facility requirements for mandatory training, expiable licensure, registration, malpractice insurance, life support certifications.
Provides reports and communication to Department Administrators on an ongoing and as-needed bases to ensure accuracy of information in the credentialing database and regarding status of credentialing files.
Possesses and maintains current and ongoing knowledge of all applicable accreditation standards, State and Federal regulations and legal requirements related to medical staff affairs ensuring that operations conform to current and appropriate standards/regulations.
Actively participates in ongoing educational opportunities as it pertains to job role.
Leads preparations for various special events/social events, including the Semi Annual/Faculty meetings, medical staff meetings, physician orientation & dinners.
Other ad-hoc duties as assigned
Required Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 3 years of credentialing experience in medical staff services OR High School diploma and 5 years credentialing experience in medical staff services.
Certified by the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) OR certified within 12 months of hire.
Highly attentive to detail and accuracy and possess strong organization and prioritization skills.
Must be able to organize information and data to identify/explain trends, problems, and their causes to determine underlying issues.
Ability to act autonomously and use discretion while prioritizing workload.

Preferred Job Qualifications:
Experience using Echo by VerityStream (Credentialing Database)
Hold active membership with Illinois Association of Medical Staff Services and/or National Association of Medical Staff Services
