Job Summary:

The Senior Business Systems Analyst is a primary interface between the information technology group and the business stakeholders to elicit, analyze, communicate and validate requirements for changes to business processes, policies and information systems.

The Role – Sr. Business Systems Analyst

What we are looking for…

Markel is seeking a talented and passionate business systems analysist to join our team. We want a vocal advocate of agile / lean methods who will be excited about leading creative problem-solving as part of a cross-functional team; will obsess over writing smart, simple business requirements; will tirelessly strive for the best end-user experience and will have the drive and desire to keep learning the latest industry tools and techniques.

What you’ll do…
  • Act as a lead analyst on strategic initiatives
  • Be an advocate and evangelist for business systems analysis practice
  • Act as a player, coach, and change agent in an ever changing environment
  • Work closely with Product Owners and/or business leaders to align project outcomes
  • Develop and maintain detailed user stories and other project artifacts
  • Drive excellence within community of practice through coaching and educating other analysts
  • Build strong working relationships with business and IT partners
About you…
  • A team player, analysis/process mentor, keen to coach others and share ideas with your team
  • Previous experience working as a core part of passionate agile teams
  • Working understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Experience in a variety of fast-moving domains working on strategic initiatives
  • Consider yourself a generalist and can pick the right tool for the job
  • A great communicator able to articulate business needs and technical issues in plain language
  • Take ownership of tasks and are outcome focused
  • Able to build relationships and are a trusted advisor to IT and the business
  • Continuous learner, seeking out new solutions, and engaging in process improvement
Some things you have experience with…
  • Forms development
  • Establishment and reporting of team metrics and performance drivers
  • Agile project methodology and specific deliverables
  • Lean methodology and continuous improvement processes
  • Demonstrated collaboration, strong analytical and product management skills
  • Use of enterprise-wide requirements definition and management systems and methodologies
  • Experience of working in a matrix and distributed environment, with ability to guide and direct small teams
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Other desirable/ advantageous skills and experience…
  • Experience gained in either an insurance or insurance related business or a fast paced retail environment.
