Overview: the Social Worker provides a range of personal and academic counseling services to students and supportive services to their families in a collaborative attendance improvement and dropout prevention program. The Social Worker utilizes a youth development model that actively engages young people and supports academic success through individual and group counseling and related activities. The Social Worker is fully integrated into the life of the school.
Title: Social Worker Monroe High SCHOOL/YABC Program

Reports To:
Program Director, Monroe high school
Location: 1300 Boyton Ave. Bronx, New York 10472
Hours:
35 Hours/Week; Exempt Monday-Thursday 1pm-9pm and Friday 8am-4pm / 10 months position September until June
Major Duties:

  • Provide counseling, assessment, case management, academic planning, and attendance outreach for at risk High School students. Provide Post-secondary support to our YABC students, such as FAFSA, college or vocational app
  • Develop group/advisory workshops that support and enhance students’ skill development and help build on youth competencies and reachable goals.
  • Perform family interventions to support family engagement and participation in the school community and the lives of their youth.
  • Provide Post-secondary support to our YABC students, such as FAFSA, college or vocational app.
  • Provide support or manage open house, such as new student’s recruitment, outreach, intake and interviews.
  • Refer youth and families to appropriate resources both within the Good Shepherd Program Network and other community organizations as appropriate. Maintain Resource binder up to date.
  • Provide technical assistance to (Department of Education) DOE staff on advisement, group work and youth development.
  • In conjunction with GSS team and school, develop special in-school activities and events.
  • Participate in staff/team meetings, as well as conduct staff development workshops for YABC/GSS staff.
  • Lead and/or participate in occasional out-of-city and overnight trips for leadership, educational or enhancement purposes.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Coordinate with other Good Shepherd Services team members and maintain a collaborative relationship with DOE staff.
  • Generate data required for statistical reporting and ensure that appropriate paperwork/database entry is completed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Licensed Master’s degree in Social Work (LMSW)preferred, MSW required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Experience and demonstrated skill in working with youth and families required.
  • Prior experience in a school setting preferred.
  • Ability to implement best practices to achieve desirable outcomes.
  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and communication skills.
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
