STATUS: Non-exempt; Part-time (30 hours per week)

PAY RATE: $15.00 per hour

SCOPE OF POSITION

The Social Services Case Management Assistant is responsible for interviewing clients and completing relevant paperwork for the purpose of making recommendations to the Corps Officers regarding recipients of grant funds. The position maintains records, coordinates activities, and provides leadership for successful outcomes of family services programs in cooperation of the Pathway of Hope initiative.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates Degree or higher in the social work field; or may substitute three years of substantially similar work experience for the degree requirement.

  • Proficient in the use of general office equipment, computers, and related software.

  • Excellent organization skills and ability to manage time effectively while making sound judgments and maintaining strict confidentiality of client information.

  • Ability to write and process grants information for family services programs, and to keep records and report statistics properly.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with people from all socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Current Alaska driver’s license with acceptable driving and criminal history records.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provides rental and utility assistance case management to include telephone assessments, interviews, vendor contact, and submittal of accounts payable documentation.

  • Assists with annual grant preparation and retains supporting documents for acquisition. Prepares and submits grant reports while adhering to strict timelines.

  • Assists with family case work to include issuing hygiene kits and other personal care items, vouchers for clothing, household goods, furniture, and coordinating CSFP/TEFAP and food distribution programs.

  • Maintains strict confidentiality of client and other program related information.

  • Assists with answering telephones professionally and responding appropriately with accurate information. Assists with contacting volunteers for assignments and maintaining volunteer records; performs clerical/administrative tasks, as directed.

  • Assists in greeting clients, providing program paperwork, and overseeing those who enter the Family Services Office.

  • Assists with processing client applications for food boxes; preparing and distributing weekly food boxes; assists with bread and pastries pick up at the Food Bank when designated; helps maintain the excess food, reception, and office areas.

  • Maintains client and statistical records for all Family Services related assistance, and submits statistics within time frames allowed.

  • Assists with seasonal programs to include, but not limited to: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and School Supply programs.

  • Assure cleanliness of common areas, including break area, restrooms, and regular sweeping/moping. Assist in keeping outdoor walkways clear from snow and ice.

  • Willing to accept assignments from the Corps Officers when it comes to Secretarial needs within the department, i.e. copying, typing letters, mailing correspondence, taking notes, making phone calls.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed primarily inside a heated and ventilated environment with limited exposure to outside weather conditions during food box deliveries. Noise level is generally low.


PROTECT THE MISSION

Must complete the online course for this area and pass the Background Checks required by The Salvation Army for employment.


DRIVER REQUIREMENTS

Must be a licensed driver with acceptable driving history. Must also complete and pass The Salvation Army Driver Safety Course.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Speaking, sitting, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, standing, kneeling, stooping, reaching, snow shoveling, ice breaking, handling, fingering, climbing, and balancing. Hearing and visual acuity must be within normal limits. Lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Driving a motor vehicle in daylight, darkness, and during periods of inclement weather. Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. A qualified person with a disability may request a modification or adjustment to the job or work environment in order to meet the physical requirements of the position.
