Silicon Strategy & Planning Manager Details

The Silicon Strategy & Partnerships team is in search of a technical yet business-minded individual contributor to drive multiple vectors that impact and define our silicon strategy and planning efforts for Facebook Reality Labs (“FRL”). This role encompasses both micro and macro aspects of custom silicon planning and development, and the ideal candidate will be able to seamlessly navigate between immediate execution needs and long-term strategic planning.

  • Establishing a crisp and cross functionally-aligned strategy for the development of custom IP blocks and/or custom chips. Includes identifying de novo opportunities, building the case for/against undertaking a project, building consensus for and securing approvals from cross-functional stakeholders and executive leadership for new projects in alignment with product priorities.
  • Conducting buy/build analyses, formulating a recommended approach, and driving definition, schedule and clarity of engineering/system requirements for custom/OTS wireless chips/chiplets/IP in close collaboration with the Facebook Agile Silicon Team (FAST) engineers and Sourcing managers. Exercising deep technical understanding of the silicon landscape of technologies, vendors, IP and processes and ability to effectively drive matrixed teams to decisions to be reflected in technical documents such as RFIs, ERSs and SOWs.
  • Representing FAST and Sourcing leadership vis-a-vis silicon design services, foundries and other ecosystem vendors, and facilitating growth of trust relationships with all key partners. Will require domestic and international travel when deemed safe.
  • Providing guidance on strategic deal terms including IP rights and ensuring consistency of approach and prioritization across similarly situated third party engagements. Close collaboration with Partnerships lead, as appropriate.
  • Developing and implementing new processes to improve operational and execution efficiencies (e.g. RFI process, IDF filings, new project review/approvals, PDP processes).
  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing & Operations Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in one or more positions responsible for shipping consumer electronics products or silicon therein, including experience dealing directly with silicon development, procurement, or sourcing. Familiarity with both silicon and consumer hardware development life cycles and ODM/CM working models.
  • Experience with silicon development processes and strategic vendors in the silicon ecosystem (e.g. foundries, IP licensors, design services vendors).
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including Silicon Engineering, Product (HW) and SW Engineering, Product Management, Partnerships, Sourcing, Finance, and Legal.
  • Experience with computing and mobile operating systems and SW application development life cycles.
  • Technical, analytical and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience at Tier 1 semiconductor company.
  • Experience communicating to champion initiatives internally and externally, and for communicating with executive management and external partners.
