Objective

Our mission is to create and sustain a strong, effective community that acknowledges and responds to the potential, achievements and interdependence of its diverse members. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals that have been impacted by mental health illness, substance abuse, criminal justice and medical issues. The Team Leader will oversee and coordinate all activities including defining and implementing Shelter programs with particular attention to: design, specifications, safer building promotion and supervision. With the aim that the Shelter and Settlements components ensure joint and integrated programming that builds upon community capacities, quality and accountability to beneficiaries, maximizing local capacities and livelihood opportunities, whilst reducing Shelter and Settlements related risk and vulnerabilities.


Essential Functions:

  • Provide weekly supervision to an assigned team of Case Manager(s), Housing Specialist and Peer Engagement Specialist.
  • Ensure provision of social services to shelter residents in order to best assist clients in moving rapidly towards housing goals.
  • Provide Clinical coverage in the absence the Director of Social Services as needed.
  • Coordinate shelter support/inputs to operational assessments and risk analysis related to possible shelter interventions (analysis of needs, assistance options and related implementing modalities) and contribute to the development of mitigation measures. Conduct case reviews in supervision meetings to ensure the coordination of client care.
  • Ensure Psychosocial Evaluations, Independent Living Plans and other required documentation are completed and filed as per DHS and OTDA standards.
  • Ensure that Team input required documentation in a timely fashion into CARES.
  • Carry a small caseload of clients who need counseling and/or more trauma informed support
  • Ensure clients goals are being attained and the group is working collaboratively as an interdisciplinary team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Shelter Director and Director of Social Services.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master Degree required, MSW/LMSW Preferred.
  • 2-3 years' experience working in a residential facility such as emergency shelter, transition housing or supportive housing required.
  • Experience as a supervisor in a social service environment is required.
  • Experience with electronic case management systems, and demonstrated ability to utilize and review data to inform best practices in service provision
  • Ability to work well under pressure, including crisis situations, and be flexible with work schedule when necessary.
  • Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.


Work Environment:
This job operates in a shelter site in Washington Heights, NY and works with a population who may suffer from mental illness, substance abuse, disability, HIV/AIDS and/or other health issues.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, climb stairs and/ or kneel. Occasionally the employee will have to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
