Shelter Advocate

General Summary:
Main contact for all shelter program needs in absence of Shelter Manager. Supports case plan and models life skills. Maintains shelter inventory, maintenance, and funding reports. Shares 24/7 on-call responsibility with Shelter Manager.
Essential Functions:
- Provides trauma-informed care practices into service provision for all clients.
- Answers crisis line, provides referrals, and completes database entry
- In absence of Shelter Manager (SM), main point of contact for shelter assessment process and approval.
- Support and maintain case plan with shelter residents. Provides on-going advocacy.
- Models life skills direction (budgeting, parenting, household routine and management, time management) to those residing in the shelter in conjunction with SM.
- Responds to requests for the Safe At Home Program.
- Facilitates bi-weekly support group for outreach advocacy clients.
- Manages business center area; community events board, stocking hand-outs and resources, office supplies, etc…
- Maintains shelter individual and family resource contacts, and agency- wide community resource directory. Communicates knowledge of all resources and changes of resources to FRIENDS staff.
- Responds to on-call rotation for CA schedule on a bi–weekly basis, rotating with SM, including coverage when Crisis Advocate calls in sick or is unable to be at shelter for assigned shift.
- Leads shift change communication with CA advocates in absence of SM.
- Attends monthly CA meeting.
- Conducts monthly I-C Results, annual NNEDV and Statewide census. Participates in bi-annual PIT survey.
- Monitors shelter inventory and coordinates all donations including policy and need. Maintains the organization of shelter storage.
- Utilizes Salesforce to create donation thank you records and assist in maintaining database.
- Monitors all shelter maintenance needs, coordinates repair and purchases with Office Manager once budget approved by Executive Director.
- Actively participate on community committees and meetings such as COC Housing Taskforce.
- Attends monthly all staff meeting, bi-weekly coordinator meetings, weekly updates with Associate Director, and monthly shelter team meetings.
- Supports and attends all FRIENDS special events and functions including internal committees such as Social Media.
- Represents FRIENDS in a positive manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Requires a level of knowledge acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field, OR a combination of relevant education and employment.
- Prior work experience in the human service setting with supervision; and in providing direct services to victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. Shelter experience preferred.
- Knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault, and the trauma-informed service provision framework.
- Excellent communication skills; cultural competence and the ability to interact with diverse populations. Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Strong self-motivation and organizational skills to manage a variety of diversified tasks in a timely manner.
- Maintains a high degree of professionalism with sound judgment.
- Ability to work well in a team or independent environment.
- Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office products.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Working Conditions:
- Normal office environment.
- Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds.
- Work schedule may include some evening and weekend hours.
