DutiesSummary

You will serve as a SHEET METAL WORKER in the DEPARTMENT OF NAVY to include work sites of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Trident Refit Facility Bangor, Trident Refit Facility Kings Bay, and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility.

Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC. For example: If you are within UIC 4523A, you will only be considered for positions within 4523A.


Responsibilities
  • You will climb, bend, stoop, crawl, stand on concreate or metal surfaces, and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods while handling loads required for the job.
  • You will use measuring instruments such as pocket rules, hook rules, flexible and semi-flexible rules, compasses and other hand measuring plans and patterns.
  • You will operate hand and power driven brakes, saws, punches, rivet guns, shears, nibblers, rolls, and spot welders.
  • You will cut, punch, sand, grind, drill, bend, notch, shape and indent sheet metal.
  • You will select the proper materials, tools, and manufacturing process for the product being removed, modified, repaired, install, or manufactured.
  • You will disassemble or reassemble parts, subassemblies, and larger components of sheet metal projects.
  • You will use the principles of parallel and radial development to lay-out simple sheet metal items, such as rectangular vents and elbows, round vet and elbows, and cones.
  • You will interpret blue prints, sketches, job orders, and verbal instruction, as well as reinstall, lay-out, modify, and install sheet metal items and systems.
  • You will utilize information from patterns, sketches, plans, drawings, engineering instruction, process instructions, and job orders to manufacture, modify, assemble, and repair furniture, ventilation systems, and other metal articles.

    • This position may require exposure to high noise levels.
    • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
    • This position may be subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
    QualificationsAlthough a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
