Boeing’s Product & Services Safety (P&SS) organization is looking for a Senior System Safety Engineer (Level 4) to join our team to support the creation of a new organization called Enterprise Safety with the mission to establish a safety engineering function across the company and develop enduring product safety design practices to assure the safety, quality, integrity, and mission success of our products and services. Enterprise Safety will work with wider design, test, modifications and sustainment organizations within/across the business units to develop and put in place the appropriate policies, procedures, capabilities, skill competencies, tool suites (Model Based Systems Engineering or MBSE), standards and training supporting product/system safety consistent with Boeing’s Safety Management System (SMS), the FAA’s (Federal Aviation Administration) Continued Operation Safety Process (COSP), and industry best practices like ARP4761, ARP4754, and MIL-STD-882. Responsibilities will include working alongside systems, design and project engineers to develop, integrate and support implementation of capabilities that ensure robust execution of product/system safety analyses and best practices across the enterprise. This includes benchmarking, developing and implementing model based tools and approaches to safety engineering, data analytics, and seeking out best practices within Boeing and throughout the industry. The successful candidate will have: Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work effectively with a diverse engineering team Intrinsic aptitude for taking initiative, leading cross functional teams and complex projects Ability and willingness to take ownership of work activities to ensure they are completed accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner Position Responsibilities: Cataloging, synthesizing, and developing action plans for product safety lessons learned, pulled from across the enterprise Defining system safety design practices for use across BCA (Boeing Commercial Airplanes), BDS (Boeing Defense & Security) and BGS (Boeing Global Services), including establishing BPIs, BPGs, & D6 guidance. Design practices include those used for new design and existing fleet safety Help establish System Safety University and develop training material to educate the wider engineering team on product safety fundamentals (FHAs, FTAs, FMEAs, Development Assurance, software safety, use of newly developed tools etc.) Partner with Technical Fellowship to author and maintain safety engineering Design Practices Innovating and benchmarking new methods of ensuring product safety like STPA (System Theoretic Process Analysis) Investigating MBSE tools to digitally connect, store, and integrate critical safety deliverables like Functional Hazards Assessments, Fault Trees and Cascading Effects Analyses Establishing a broad enterprise wide Community of Excellence around Safety Engineering Working across the enterprise to understand stakeholder needs and requirements, integrating and managing projects that align to Enterprise Safety Vision and Mission Gaining a working knowledge of BCA, BDS and BGS safety processes Ensuring SMS goals are well understood in product safety Design Practices This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post Start is required. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry 5+ years of experience in systems design and/or systems analysis and/or systems integration Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): 5+ years of experience with system safety analysis Experience with one or more of the following programming (C, C++, Fortran, Python, Matlab, etc.) 5+ years of experience with business unit fleet safety risk management applying processes like COSP (Continuous Operation Safety Process), MIL-STD 882E, Systems Safety Program Plan 5+ years of experience with FHAs (Functional Hazard Assessment), FMEA's (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis), threats (Particular Risk Analyses), cascading effects analysis like Single & Multiple Failure, and Fault Trees 5+ years of experience implementing ARP 4761, Department of Defense system safety standards MIL STD 882E and FAA Advisory Circular 14CFR 25.1309 5 + years of experience in systems design or analysis (e.g. Flight Controls, Hydraulics, Avionics, Fuels, etc.) or Systems Integration Systems Engineering experience in fundamentals like req’t validation/verification, functional integration, NxN, Phase A/B/C, and Concept of Operations 5+ years of experience in systems design and/or systems analysis and/or systems integration Experience with model based systems engineering (Cameo, Rhapsody, Rose) and its associated frameworks (sysML, UPDM, MagicDraw, DoDAF, and UAF) An understanding of aerospace systems engineering together with the ability to visualize how information technology opportunities might be used to further the goals of the organization A passion for aerospace safety Typical Education/Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Relocation: This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.
