Senior Process Engineer Details

Position Summary:Perform sustaining and process development activities for processes and tools in the GaAs wafer fabrication including dry etch, wet strip, wafer thinning, and backside processes.
Responsibilities:The candidate must be a highly motivated individual who will play a key role in the GaAs wafer fabrication facility. The potential candidate will have intimate knowledge of SPC and its role in wafer manufacturing, drive continuous improvement projects to minimize processing issues and improve productivity, and conceive and plan cost reduction projects, while ensuring quality products. Work in a fast-paced operation with the ability to multitask on multiple projects while determine priorities in addressing them.

  • Responsible for sustaining the production processes and tools in in Skyworks’ Newbury Park cleanroom semiconductor processing facility that operates 24 x 7. Support daily production to ensure on-time-delivery of top-quality product.
  • Responsibilities will include qualifying new tools for production including creating documentation and training of operators/technicians.
  • Work closely with the Advanced Process Development group on future technologies.
  • Leading a team to rapidly contain yield/quality excursions and drive corrective actions.
  • Play a leadership role in deploying Fault Detection & Classification (FDC) to process toolsets.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • At a minimum, a BS in engineering, physics, chemistry, material science or related discipline.
  • At least 4 years of experience in micro-electronics process engineering. An ideal candidate will also have some knowledge/experience in process areas such as thin film deposition, dry and wet etch, surface preparation, plating, photolithography and other wet processes.
  • Experience in wafer thinning processes and backend processing a plus.
  • Experience applying analytical and metrology tools (e.g. SEM/FIB/EDX) and interpreting the results.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering peer groups to influence change and drive improvements in a dynamic and collaborative environment that values lasting results.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a cleanroom semiconductor processing environment.
  • U.S. citizenship or a “green card holder”.

Preferred Skills
  • Intermediate knowledge and practical experience applying structured problem-solving methods (e.g. Six Sigma, FMEA or Model-based) to identify and control or eliminate root causes of variation.
  • Intermediate knowledge and practical experience applying SPC, DOE, MSA and ANOVA.
  • Intermediate data analysis skills using tools such as JMP or Minitab, Exensio, or equivalent.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Job DescriptionPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Develops new or modified process formulations, defines processing or handling equipment requirements and specifications, and reviews processing techniques and methods applied in the manufacture, fabrication, and evaluation of products. Involvement may begin at any step from pilot plant to full-scale manufacturing. Coordinates design requirement review with appropriate engineering/scientific personnel to ensure compatibility of processing methods. Compiles and evaluates test data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process or material specifications.
