Senior Power System Engineer

Local Unit & Position Description:
DNV GL – Energy’s Energy Advisory group has an exciting opportunity for Senior Engineer in its Power System Advisory (PSA) Department. DNV GL Energy’s PSA provides creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission and distribution systems. The Senior Engineer must demonstrate vision, drive, and be passionate to contribute, grow and expand the PSA business in the Americas.
This position may be based out of our Dallas, TX; Oakland, CA; Austin, TX or Seattle, WA office. Remote location may be considered.
Tasks May Include- Execute technical analyses related to T&D power grids including load flow, short circuit and transient stability assessments
- Execute technical analyses related to energy markets including security constrained economic dispatch assessments
- Perform Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) and sub synchronous resonance studies for medium/large power system networks
- Review and compile engineering data and information as needed to perform the technical analyses
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for area(s) related to grid reliability and/or energy markets
- Manage small to medium size projects according to DNV GL's project management practices
- Actively attend (in person/remote) industry stakeholder meetings and stay up-to-date with assigned market changes in terms of developments and policy changes
- Contribute to the team’s research and innovation activities in terms of development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to further the team’s performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvements
- Adhere to department’s project quality and timeliness procedures
- Establish and maintain sustainable relationships and good communication with other internal and external team members and customers.
- Assist in preparing responses to Statement of Qualifications (SOQ’s), Request for Proposals (RFP’s) for new tenders/bids/opportunities
Position Qualifications:Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Electric Power Systems
- In-depth understanding of fundamentals of electric power systems and renewable energy
- Minimum five (5) years of direct work experience in transmission and/or distribution planning related analyses preferably in a utility, power trading, renewable energy company or consulting environment
- Minimum three (3) years of experience if paired with graduate level engineering degree
- Knowledge of North American RTO/ISO markets and their planning practices
- Demonstrable hands-on experience with at least one of the following power system analysis software packages: PSS/E, GE PSLF, PSCAD
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT, OneNote, MS Teams, Microsft Project)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, business and technical writing.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Strong time management skills
- Ability to work in a high-paced team environment
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 15% of the time

Preferred Skills- Graduate level degree with emphasis on Electric Power Systems
- Knowledge of Eastern and/or western grid interconnection and corresponding planning practices including resource integration studies
- Demonstrable hands-on experience with power system analysis software packages including TARA, ASPEN, ABB PROMOD, UPLAN, CYME, ETAP, Synergie Electric and/or DIGSILENT
- Track record of project management and/or successful completion of project management related trainings
- Working knowledge of automation scripts such as Python for development of automation modules
