For more information, please visit our website at http://www.duostech.com/. We are seeking to fill the position of Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer. This is an exempt, full-time position located at our Engineering facility in Jacksonville, FL and reports to the VP of Engineering. The Sr. Opto-Mechanical Engineer is a member of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for designing and documenting our integrated technology systems and solutions to include mechanical drawings, materials lists that represent designs and proper use of our products and systems. Responsibilities also include the mechanical design of assemblies, conceptual designs, thermal and mechanical analysis, preparing solid models and layouts, selection of materials, developing specifications for products and preparing reports. The ideal candidate should be considered an expert in their respective discipline, principally responsible for designing in their discipline, and designing and building (in the lab) metrology for testing/verifying the parts they have designed. Responsibilities and Duties:- Use 3D MCAD tools in the creation of complex mechanical models, fabrication drawings and assembly as-built drawings and documentation for products, systems and projects.
- Perform tolerance analysis as required to ensure intended assembly performance.
- Work with our electrical designers and engineers to define the mechanical constraint drawing and related attributes of electronic modules and systems.
- Familiar with GD&T and the ability to apply in the creation of fabrication drawings for mechanical parts IAW ANSI Y14.5M.
- Creating assembly drawings IAW ANSI Y14.5M that allow for the assembly of complex electromechanical products and properly control the configuration of these documents.
- Provide material and labor estimates to support new product proposal effort.
- Support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication.
- Balance multiple projects and support operations personnel as issues arise during build.
- Assist in the transition of product designs from R&D into manufacturing.
- Conduct feasibility studies, generates concepts, builds prototypes, and performs testing on new and modified designs.
- Conduct design capability evaluations (theoretical and empirical), as well as product life and reliability analyses.
- Perform root cause failure analysis.
- Up to 25% travel may be required at locations throughout North America during project installations, troubleshooting, repairs, and field testing.
- Determine and select appropriate materials, as well as fabrication, manufacturing, and finishing methods for parts and assemblies.
- Define and writes production test and validation requirements.
- Communicate effectively using both oral and written communication.
- Provide the necessary, planning, organization, leadership, inspiration, communication, and control to meet the Operations goals of the company.
- Understand customer requirements and make appropriate recommendations/briefings.
Qualification and Skills:- Expert designer in 3D CAD packages such as Solidworks and/or Inventor, solely or principally responsible for a least 10 unique, non-trivial mechanical system designs. This should include:
- Precision dimensions (1-2 um linear, 1 mRad flatness and parallelisms).
- Multiple material systems (metals, plastics, composites, etc.).
- Automation stage assembly.
- Machine vision camera and lighting systems.
- Design optimization for manufacture with FEA modeling experience a plus.
- High level of enthusiasm, strong integrity, and excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to changing work schedules.
- Ability to rally with team members during high-demand project timeframes.
- Solid computer skills and familiarity with common applications (i.e. Microsoft Office, Windows, etc.).
- Working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Rapidly adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to elicit cooperation from senior management and other departments while championing projects.
Education and Experience:- Bachelor’s degree with 10 years’ experience. Post graduate degree with additional experience highly desired.
- Experience with optical barrels, optics housings, machine vision lenses, optical sensor mounts, optical fiber mounting, optical alignment tools/fixtures, optical surface finishes, machine vision lighting systems, and opto-mechanical design for harsh environments.
- Experience designing, building and using measurement and tolerancing equipment for verification of final mechanical assembly design and fixturing. A majority of mechanical design work should be on or for optical systems: imagers, illuminators, detectors, DAQ systems, etc., and should be familiar with optical systems in general.
