Position Summary

Participate in processing, monitoring and maintaining documents regarding a variety of City programs in support of an assigned department or division; assist all professional staff with routine and/or clerical duties; maintain department filing systems records and databases; provide front counter assistance, including providing information on processes, guidelines, policies, procedures, and systems; and perform a variety of customer service duties relative to the assigned area of responsibility.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional RequirementsEducation directly related to the minimum requirements below may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

High school diploma or GED; and

Three (3) years of clerical or office assistant experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The typing test requirement will be waived temporarily due to the closure of state and county agencies and educational institutions.
Must possess a valid certified typing test issued by a state agency, county agency or an accredited educational institution with a minimum score of forty (40) net WPM. Local typing tests may be taken Monday - Friday 8am to 3:30pm at the following locations: NM Workforce Connection, 501 Mountain Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102 OR Sandoval Workforce Connection, 301 Rail Runner Ave, Bernalillo, NM 87004.

  • Business letter writing and basic report preparation techniques
  • Office procedures, methods and computer equipment
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping
  • English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations

  • Interpret and explain assigned department policies and procedures
  • Assist professional staff with routine and/or clerical duties
  • Perform clerical work involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision
  • Perform basic use of Microsoft Word and Excel software
  • Maintain confidential records and reports
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public
  • Work odd hours, evenings or weekends during an election
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
