Position Summary The Applied Research position focuses on scientific research, test method development and testing of new products, and advanced materials. A senior Professional position applies advanced knowledge of a job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex.

Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Execute material compounding projects to meet compound technology roadmap commitments on time and on schedule
  • Develop new compounding strategies based on new raw material application rule sets

General Responsibilities:
  • Leads projects or processes of diverse scope, while working independently with limited supervision
  • Coaches and reviews the work of lower level professionals
  • Supports continuous improvement/automation activities
  • Researches potential new technologies, products and test method development by developing and testing theories on the physical, chemical and/or biological properties of materials and ingredients under various conditions
  • Devises research methods, prepares technical specifications, and specifies laboratory test equipment and processes
  • Makes recommendations concerning acquisition and use of new technological equipment and materials
  • May participate in intellectual property evaluations and development of patent applications
  • Coordinates pilot-plant or initial production runs on new products or processes
  • Supports relationships through strong communication and negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Creation and management of institutional knowledge
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Typically requires a minimum of 4 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 2 years and a master’s degree; or equivalent work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or related technical degree
  • Experience in materials development, compound development, or product formulation
