Reporting directly to Pie's VP Finance, this newly created and business-critical role will be responsible for driving the company's financial forecasting activities, which will include analyzing and forecasting Pie's business metrics to measure performance, optimize efficiency, and inform strategic decisions at the executive and board level. The ideal candidate has deep modeling and forecasting skills and is highly analytical with the ability to synthesize information from disparate sources across the business and strategic landscape. Additionally, this position includes management and development responsibilities, and the ideal candidate will have strong communication and management skills.
How You'll Do It - Maintain rolling near- and long-term forecasts for use by Pie management, our board, and to inform communications with investors, ratings bureaus, reinsurance partners, and regulators
- Understand and analyze the delicate interactions required to simultaneously balance growth, margin trends, cash burn, and insurance underwriting performance
- Design, track, and report on KPIs to analyze business trends, provide financial insights, and advise on optimizing business performance and unit economics
- Synthesize and communicate Pie's financial performance and metrics to senior leaders and the board - going beyond the superficial facts to uncover and illuminate the drivers of operational trends and help the company see around the next corner
- Collaborate with our data engineering and information systems teams to advise them on which business indicators are most valuable to track and streamline KPI reporting
- Work with our actuarial and data science teams to understand trends and drivers of Pie's insurance losses and integrate those insights into our forecasting processes
- Coordinate with FP&A business partners and their business leaders on incorporating 3-year business plans into the models
- Build ad-hoc models for analyzing and aiding strategic decision-making
- Work closely with accounting and investor relations teams to integrate the impacts of technical GAAP guidance into Pie's forecasting processes
- Build out the MD&A financial narratives to help the board and investors understand Pie's business
- Provide financial modeling and analysis support for fundraising, reinsurance negotiations, and potential future acquisitions
- Hire and develop financial analysts to support you
- Reviews work from analysts and provides regular feedback
- Trains analysts to develop their skill sets
- Strategically deploys analysts on projects for high performance
The Right Stuff - Minimum 5 years of related professional experience required
- Bachelor's degree is required
- At least 3 years of experience across investment banking, private equity or growth investing, strategic finance, or related functions preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience managing analysts preferred
- Exceptional analytical skills and natural curiosity for how a company's financial metrics and KPIs indicate its inner workings
- Virtuoso in the art of building models and producing accurate three-statement forecasts , with a passion to pass on that alchemy to your team
- Comfort with complexity and navigating ambiguity
- Prior experience in analyzing large data sets including producing cohort-based analyses
- Objectively formulates opinions and defends viewpoints with data and reasoning with executive business partners when needed
- Excellent interpersonal, oral/written communication skills, with the ability to weave your insights into a cohesive narrative and adapt your style for both experts and laypeople
- Demonstrated ability to drive the strategy and success of larger projects across the organization from start to finish while meeting deadlines
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills are required
- Facile with learning new technologies
- Not required, but a plus:
- Operational experience at a high growth tech startup or other experience working with high growth companies as a client
- Experience with pre-IPO or in a publicly traded company, including providing forecasts for quarterly & annual KPI and growth guidance
- Familiarity with SQL, Looker, Snowflake, and/or other ERP and business intelligence systems
- MBA or other advanced degree
Base Compensation Range for position: $145,000 - $200,000
