Salary: $16.11 to $18.69 hourly (Depending on qualifications)

To lead, oversee, and participate in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for maintaining City parks and related facilities; and to perform a variety of technical tasks related to the maintenance of Class A landscape facilities.

SUPERVISION

  • General supervision is provided by a District Park Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, plan, train, perform and review the work of staff responsible for providing park maintenance services.
  • Drive to and from destinations as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Maintain and care for median and park trees to ensure public safety; trim and prune trees to keep streets and sidewalks clear; cut back heavy limbs; remove dead trees and fallen limbs; remove overgrown roots to preserve sidewalks; plant and replant trees as necessary.
  • Lead and participate in a variety of plant maintenance and landscape duties including trimming trees and shrubs, pulling weeds, mowing and edging lawns, raking recreation areas, watering trees and shrubs, pulling weeds, mowing and edging lawns, raking recreation areas, watering the plants and trees, sweeping, and clearing fallen trees from the public paths and walkways.
  • Supervise the use of and operate a variety of tools and equipment including power tools, lawn mowers, trucks, and tractors; perform general maintenance duties including refueling, and lubricating parts; make minor adjustments as necessary.
  • Conduct park patrols and inspections to ensure the safety of the public and the park facilities; note possible safety hazards or causes of injury; contact appropriate law enforcement or emergency agency as required; prepare appropriate reports and documentation; perform general maintenance and repair to park facilities as required.
  • Participate in park maintenance site inspection to assure work is completed in a satisfactory and thorough manner.
  • Oversee and participate in the preparation and application of a variety of fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides and other pest and disease eradication and control chemicals as necessary.
  • Participate in the Urban Forestry Program; participate in City-wide tree planting and various other tree programs.
  • Oversee and participate in the installation, maintenance and repair of fencing.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

  • Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
EXPERIENCE
  • Two years of increasingly responsible park maintenance experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Possess Non-Commercial Certified Applicator license (with certification in the category of (3A. Landscape Maintenance and 5. Vegetation Management) issued by the State of Texas Structural Pest Control Service or the Texas Department of Agriculture or obtain license within six 6) months of employment as a condition of continued employment. Failure to obtain license will result in non-disciplinary termination.
WORK SCHEDULE
  • Monday thru Friday 6:30 am - 3:00 pm., with overtime as needed.
