CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position:

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Advanced Field Network Specialist. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Designs and provides analysis and consulting advice to customers related to network common operational environments (COE)
  • Consults with customers and conducts analysis to determine network COE specifications for making network system improvements
  • Assists in the analysis and integration of customer network COEs and consults with customers regarding which improvements should be made to optimize network COE performance including best practices for implementation and execution
  • Assists in the design of test plans and tests changes to the network COE in a "pre-deployment environment" to help determine whether system improvements advantage performance
  • Makes recommendations on integration based on the network (COE), such as specified protocols, multi-vendor routing/switching hardware\software, IA technologies, and VOIP technologies
  • Advises the customers on advanced customer premises equipment (CPE) procurement and implementation: hardware and software services utilization; respective to network COE performance
  • Incorporates CPE into existing network COE through design modeling and pre-deployment testing.
  • Advises the customer on potential impacts affecting advanced network COE performance
  • Mentor’s subordinates through task execution to optimize skill sets and expound knowledge base
  • Provides feedback to the engineering group respective to the customers deployment of the network COE shaping short-term and long-term improvements
  • Advises engineering group on CPE integrations to advantage engineering technical refresh design efforts to satisfy customers organizational needs
  • Executive management, staff, technical staff
  • Customers, military personnel, government dignitaries, external consultants/experts
  • Acts as company contact in the field with customer and contractor personnel, exercising a high degree of tact, diplomacy and mature judgment, conforming to company policy directions with a minimum of supervision
  • Security clearance required; may require TS/SCI clearance based on program assignment
  • Travel required more than 50% of the time
  • Works on problems of diverse scope
  • Normally receives little instructions on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments


The SA will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on Mission Package Computing Environment (MPCE) hardware and software. Support Mission Module (MM) embarkations by performing initial light off procedures on MM equipment and performing other duties as required. Must be able to travel to Navy ports world-wide to support shipboard installations and provide distance support on embarked MM equipment. The SA will also be responsible for operating and maintaining installed equipment at the LCS Mission Package Support Facility (shore-based maintenance facility) on Naval Base Ventura County at Port Hueneme, CA.


Duties include:

  • Troubleshoots technical problems and issues, determines technical solution in accordance with product and customer specifications, and recommends actions to company or customer representatives for coordinative product solution.
  • Deploys, maintains and monitors network gear to include switches, servers, firewalls, etc. Dc-bugs network-related problems.
  • Working knowledge of routing protocols, network address assignments and routing configurations. Performs a variety of technical tasks to assist engineers with electronic systems.
  • Physical demands will require mobility aboard military vessels.
  • Document maintenance and repair procedures for developing government computing system.
  • Devise and document procedures for transferring maintenance responsibilities from the government design lab to the MPSF.
  • Provide logistics guidance to support system maturation.
  • Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators.
  • Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products
  • Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery.
  • Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
  • Ancillary duties may include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocating mass storage space.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree. Industry certifications are preferred

Minimum Salary: USD $82,000.00/Yr. Maximum Salary: USD $88,700.00/Yr. Salary Note: This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary.
