Job Description

Our South-Central Sales and Applications team is seeking a unique individual with 5+ years of experience in embedded and wired communications with outstanding technical skills.

As a Senior Embedded Solution Engineer, you will engage, use insights and influencing skills to teach clients about their industry and offer unique perspectives on their technology, which link back to Microchip's solutions. You will utilize your engineering design skills, techniques and knowledge to decrease client development time, reduce overall system cost and improve the performance of their end products. You will also provide hardware, firmware, middleware and development tools support for the assigned clients to accelerate their product development schedule. You will become a technical trusted advisor. This position will allow you to engage with various clients in the South Central US region. We are seeking someone who can advise and implement innovative ideas and solutions with our clients.

Overview

Primarily customer engagement role to drive design wins to revenue at large accounts, by providing in-depth engineering support including creation of demos, proof of concept designs, and first bring up of client system boards. Some specific embedded expertise may be required. Visiting, training and advising customers is also part of the job.

Main Functions

  • Drive design wins to revenue applying the Microchip Total System Solutions approach
  • Adopt, lead, and comprehensively utilize all elements of Microchip’s Sales Operating System to create and secure design-wins with a focus on Ethernet and USB
  • Provide in-depth engineering support and assist customers with hardware and software development
  • Adapt existing reference designs to address specific customer needs
  • Will support a variety of clients including computing projects
  • Travel to receive training or to support other regions as needed
Job Requirements

Technical Skills

  • BSc or BEng in Electronic Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with embedded system design including the following:
  • Experience with serial communication and wired networking protocols including any of these: Ethernet, FS/HS/SS USB, CAN, PCIe, SATA
  • Within Ethernet have experience focused on Layer 1 and Layer 2 of the OSI Model HW development and system debugging on MAC, PHY and Switch operation.
  • Basic communication protocols - I2C, SPI, UART
  • Experienced in the use of Oscilloscopes, USB and Ethernet Protocol Analyzers, and logic analyzers to debug prototype circuitry.
  • General knowledge of signal integrity fundamentals
  • Knowledge of using embedded MCU or MPU and system architecture design
  • Knowledge of embedded C programming language and associated tools

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with CAD tools for design review including Allegro and Altium
  • Ethernet and USB experience with embedded drivers in Linux and working with analyzer tools such as Wireshark.
  • Ethernet system design with IEEE 802.1AS and 802.1BA
  • USB design by the USB 3.x with Type-C standard.

Experience with other high speed bench top equipment such as SAS and PCIe analyzers or other storage related test equipment
