What We’re Looking For

Baylor University’s Financial Services Office is looking for a Senior Accountant to support the University’s Real Estate, Facilities, & Construction Services teams. This position reports to the Director of Debt and Capital Asset Accounting and will manage essential financial, budget, compliance, administrative, and accounting activities. This support includes financial planning, procurement, research, and advising on the allocation of resources to achieve business objectives, as well as ensuring the appropriate accounting and reporting of real estate, facilities and construction activities. Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance and five years of relevant work experience, and a Christian faith are required. A Master’s degree and seven years of relevant experience is preferred. A CPA or someone who is currently sitting for their CPA certification is strongly preferred. Experience with construction project accounting, lease accounting, and real estate transactions strongly preferred. Hybrid work will be considered for this position. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

What You Will Do

  • Involved in the preparation of annual budget planning and financial forecasting for his/her assigned financial unit(s).
  • Uses professional judgment and integrity to evaluate the appropriateness of expenditures and possesses the maturity and confidence to address questionable transactions either directly or by escalating if needed.
  • Adopts financial and accounting best practices and ensures all transactions follow applicable policies and accounting standards for Real Estate, Facilities Management, and Construction Services activities.
  • Maintains a big picture perspective to ensure that all expenditures are evaluated to assess impact on Divisional operational needs and goals.
  • Prepares reports as appropriate to meet University and Departmental requirements, including cash flow projections, presentations, meeting agendas, and other resource documents.
  • Prepares timely projections and analyses, analyzes fiscal and administrative impact of various process options and/or new programs; makes recommendations for improved cost effectiveness, appropriate accounting, and budget utilization; assists with budget management.
  • Responsible for special projects or assignments, which require a thorough understanding of fiscal, departmental and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Acquires and maintains an extensive understanding of University processes and systems, including Oracle Cloud financial systems (Ignite) and facilities management systems.
  • Assists with managing third party contracts and analysis by reviewing and approving all departmental related transactions, ensuring appropriate accounting practices.
  • May supervise the work of staff engaged in general accounting and bookkeeping functions and administrative staff as necessary.
  • Supports all aspects of lease accounting, including the management of lease data and ongoing maintenance of lease accounting standards.
