Security Technician, AM (Lakefront)

Overview: AltaPointe’s Adult Residential Services are designed for consumers with serious and persistent mental illness who require social rehabilitation and community support. Combining medical, nursing and clinical services, our staff provides care and treatment for more than 200 adults in need of intensive service provision. The Adult Residential Services Program consists of group homes, which are supervised 24 hours/day when consumers are on the premises. Expected outcomes are the same for each adult group home: to prevent re-hospitalization and to maximize and maintain successful community placement. Residential care focuses on the rehabilitation and return to the community of seriously mentally ill consumers.Responsibilities: Security Technicians respond to crisis situations in the inpatient and residential settings, and implement proper Mindset interventions which may include the application of seclusion and restraints. Security technicians are responsible for the safety and security of all consumers, staff and visitors to the hospital or group homes. They conduct perimeter checks both inside and outside the facilities as well as provide visitor control. In addition they conduct searches as directed and monitor for contraband.
Essential Functions- Responds to crisis situations throughout facility and implements proper MindSet interventions
- Demonstrates the ability to recognize the elements of a crisis state and knows how to deescalate or resolve the situation
- Applies seclusion and restraint per AltaPointe Policy and Procedure
- Conducts consumer and room searches for contraband items per AltaPointe Policy and Procedure
- Conducts Environmental Rounds on a daily basis and documents accordingly
- Provides monitoring and interaction with consumers
- Prepares end of shift (EOS) report
- Performs hand-off communication at shift change
- Effectively collaborates with the treatment team members
- Actively participates in Security team meetings for performance improvement purposes
- Provides staff training to staff on crisis intervention as needed
- Models appropriate behavior including but not limited to communication skills, grooming, manners, etc.
- Effectively demonstrates the application of adult specific competencies
- Routinely monitors cameras
- Maintains a presence within building and on units
- Inquires as to reason of visit when/if visitors appear to be “hanging around”
- Conducts routine walk through of units, outside and parking lots
- Effectively uses wands and walkie talkies along with charging them when not in use
- Check out van and black bag, verify driver’s license, check vehicle and charge cells
- Provides backup support to front desk
- Notifies management of issues that surface
- Provides back up support during visitations
- Provides security during legal proceedings
- Assist with on boarding new employees
- Seeks supervision and consultation as needed
- Accepts and employs suggestions for improvement

Physical Requirements- Responsible for physical holds/restraints based upon direction of code leader
- Frequent standing, walking and running
- Frequent forward bending from the hips while kneeling to reach to the side
- Frequent squat/lunge from a standing position
- Strong grasp is needed to maintain constant contact with a consumer during a restraint procedure or with other hold techniques.
- Maintaining back extension while in prone position (stomach toward floor) with one’s own body weight on forearms, thighs, knees to feet. The position is maintained from 30 seconds to extended time up to 1 hour or longer. This physical demand is frequent by nature.
- Ability to put one’s own body weight on one knee and one elbow on the same side of one’s body. The position can last from 15 seconds or longer. This physical demand is frequent by nature.
- Ability to kneel and reach to same side of body with both hands on the floor. This position is maintained for 30 seconds or longer. This physical demand is frequent by nature.
- This position requires a strong core
- This position requires upper body strength like that required to do push-ups.
- Have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist and horizontally.
- Any of the above listed physical demands could take place inside or outside the facility.
Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required. Must be able to pass a physical agility test that includes running, push-ups, sit ups, etc. Details are available upon request.
