Position Summary
The Security Officer’s main responsibility is the identification and prevention of situations that put people and property at risk. The security officer is responsible to provide excellent customer service patrolling campus grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. Security officers provide a visible presence, deterrence and are ready to tactfully intervene where appropriate.

Essential Duties

  • Patrols hospital grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles. Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes or detains them, or telephones police for assistance, according to circumstances.
  • Mitigates risks that could affect the day-to-day operations of a facility.
  • Uses verbal de-escalation skills when necessary and enforces institutions visitor rules and regulations.
  • Periodically tours buildings and grounds, examining doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure and not tampered with.
  • Checks cars and verifies if vehicles are parked in restricted areas, such as fire zones, turnarounds, ambulance entrances or reserved parking spaces.
  • Checks exterior lighting and access routes to emergency and fire entrances.
  • Escorts personnel to and from parking lots or between buildings as requested.
  • Provides emergency car battery service to employees, patients and visitors as needed.
  • Answers visitor’s questions concerning locations of various offices, rooms, and other areas within the hospital.
  • Documents and records information pertaining to events, the security of people, products, and vehicles, and reports information appropriately to security leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 1 year previous customer service experience required. Previous security, military or law enforcement experience preferred.
  • Special Training, Certification or Licensure: Denver Security Guard License (Preferred), must be willing to obtain immediately upon hire. International Association for Healthcare Security Safety Certification (Preferred) or must be able to obtain within the first year of employment. Valid Driver’s License Required.

Salary Range: $18.00 - $22.00
