Duties The employee provides physical protection of museum property and grounds, and which enforces Institution rules regarding safety and protection of staff and visitors within the Institution's boundaries. Qualification requirements must be met within 30 days of the job announcement closing date. Incumbent Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. without assistance. Incumbent must be available for work on evening, weekends and holidays. This position is restricted to applicants with veterans preference. This position requires pre-employment drug screening. This position requires annual (at a minimum) with the standard security force firearm (handguns, rifles and shot guns), OC Spray and ASP Baton. Failure to re-qualify will result in removal from the position. This position requires selectee(s)to undergo and pass a recurring medical examination. Experience: You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service or comparable pay band system related to the work of this position For this position general and specialized experience is defined as: 1) Following written and oral instructions of security officer rules, procedures, and methods to perform security duties; 2) Preventing theft, vandalism and crimes against persons and/or property; 3) Providing initial first responder care; and 4) Gathering statements and facts to prepare reports regarding offenses and incidents. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. This job does not have an education qualification requirement. This position is included in the bargaining unit.
