About the Position: The Directorate of Operations (DOO) provides law and order, fire and emergency services and protection operations. Its main mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for the Service Members, civilians and families that work, live or visit our installation.

NOTE: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment.


Responsibilities
  • Perform security guard duties in accordance with appropriate regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage and espionage.
  • Enforce the security regulations of the installation.
  • Control access of vehicles and pedestrians to installation.
  • Verify identification through use of identification cards, badges, biometrics automated records, verbal questioning, and other means.
  • Admit persons, denies entry or arranges for escorts, as appropriate.
  • Conduct vehicle searches and inspections.
  • Conduct foot or vehicle patrol of perimeters, roadways, parking and other high traffic areas.

    • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
    • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
    • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
    • This is a Term position scheduled Not to Exceed 6 Years. Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
    • This position requires the incumbent must obtain and maintain applicable certification in operating various electronic equipment and sensors
    • This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform and /or protective clothing and equipment.
    • This position requires certification in the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with AR 190-56.
    • This position requires the incumbent to be proficient in the use of assigned firearms.
    • This position requires the incumbent to pass an annual pepper spray and/or Taser certification if issued to personnel.
    • This position requires the incumbent must successfully complete Security Guard training.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved controlling access to restricted areas, patrolling, maintaining order, and protecting life or property. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques.

    Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

    This is a TERM appointment, NTE 6 Years. Individuals selected for this term position may be eligible for conversion to career-conditional appointment at a later date. To be converted, the employee must (1) have been selected for the position under competitive procedures, (2) must have served 2 years of substantially continuous service in the appointment, (3) be selected under merit promotion procedures for the permanent position, and (4) have a current rating of "B" or better.
